^ Sylvia, I saw your post and updated my earlier post above. Your list looks good.

It's hard to predict who will be the replacement, because, as you pointed out, all of the ladies with one assignment already are assigned to Russia or China.

Glebova would be the best option (nordic beauty out, nordic beauty in). Having the two helgesson sisters in the same field would be redundant. I wouldnt be surprised if its Yan Liu though.

Today's ISU Updates

Dance (http://isu.sportcentric.net/db//files/serve.php?id=2196)
Updated to include Coomes/Buckland assignment to Skate America to replace Alessandrini/Vaturi.
Still no replacement for Alessandrini/Vaturi at Skate Canada.

Pairs (http://isu.sportcentric.net/db//files/serve.php?id=2195)
Updated to show Moore-Towers/Moscovitch and Simpson/Miller's assignments to Skate Canada and Hecht/Trefil assignment to TEB.

Ladies (http://isu.sportcentric.net/db//files/serve.php?id=2194)
Lepistö (FIN) out of Skate America.

Oops. I forgot to add the likely replacements list for Lepistö's SA spot.

Possible replacements for Lepistö at Skate America

Cannot be an American lady, because the USA has 3 assignments to Skate America already.
Ladies already assigned to Cup of China or Russia are in gray because they compete the week before/after.

Possible replacements with 1 GP assignment already(in order of SB)
(1) Amanda Dobbs USA SB 23 - CHN
(1) Elena Glebova EST SB 36 - RUS
(1) Kristine Musademba USA 39 SB - CHN
(1) Yan Liu CHN SB 42 - CHN
(1) Joshi Helgesson SWE SB 45 - CHN
(1) Sofya Biryukova RUS SB 47 - RUS
(1) Quiying Zhu CHN SB 58 - CHN
(1) Ivana Reitmayerova SVK SB 61 - RUS
(1) Bingwa Geng CHN SB 73 - CHN

Skaters on the Alternates List (listed in order of SB rank) without a GP assignment
Cheltzie Lee AUS SB 44 (knee injury)
Oksana Gozeva RUS SB 49
Emily Hughes USA SB 50 (assume retired?)
Ellie Kawamura USA SB 55
Maria Artemieva RUS SB 56
Chae-Hwa Kim KOR SB 66
Ekaterina Kozireva RUS SB 68
Karen Zhou USA SB 74

No lady with a GP assignment already is "free."
All I can think is it may be Joshi Helgesson because her sister Viktoria is assigned to SA already and she is a one-to-one Nordic replacement. :) Or Glebova. Yan Liu may be an option because her one assignment is domestic.

I hope Zhiganshina/Gaszi get the Skate Canada spot. They could travel with the other German team and they would really deserve it after their promising start in this season. Hope so.

I know others have said this but there seems to be a larger than average number of withdrawals this year. Is that because it's a post-Oly year and the "stakes" are not as high to compete in the GP?

Obviously there are some freak accidents and injuries like SamBates, etc. but things seem pretty strange this year.

I just watched NHK Trophy on CBC and was I the only one straining to hear the music over the commentator's continuous talking?

No! i had the same thought. I was watching on Universal Sports in USA and could barely hear the music. Very disappointing especially for the men's short with so many great interpretive programs.

Anyone but Gozeva please....

It's a shame if both the Ladies and Dance spots go unfilled. The dance withdrawal was a week ago, so you'd think that at least a replacement for that one could have been found. But now it's only one day before the start of practice and two days to the start of competition. :(

Yeah, the Skate Canada rosters (http://www.isuresults.com/events/fsevent00011182.htm) have finally been updated but there are still only 9 dance teams entered.

10-27-2010, 03:26 PM
There are only 8 pairs entered.

10-27-2010, 03:29 PM
There are only 8 pairs entered.
8 is the current maximum for GP pairs (4 pairs in each competition warm-up group). Dance is 10 because it's 5 teams in each comp. warm-up group.

Each Grand Prix should have an official substitute, so that skater can prepare himself in case he/she gets called in at the last minute.

10-27-2010, 05:11 PM
That's a great idea!

10-27-2010, 05:26 PM
Yeah, an alternate list or SOMETHING. :duh:

Nah, too logical.

10-28-2010, 02:01 AM
Meh looks the ID spot is gonna go unfilled.

I guess a week wasn't enough to get people visas.

10-28-2010, 02:14 AM
Do competitors and coaches need special "We're working here and will earn money (coaches) and might earn prize money (skaters)" visas?

For visitor visas (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp), the only figure skating countries with senior skaters that need them are:
Czech Republic (?)
Poland for people without biometric passports
South Africa*

*No senior dance teams that qualify

Japanes and EU citizens, with the exceptions above, don't need visitor visas.
