really silly question - why doesn't JPN have 3 ladies @ NHK? They have such a strong team?

Good question that was asked earlier and here was one reply:

Here's a rundown of the top 14 from Japanese Nationals...not sure who they'd really send for a 3rd spot at this point.

1 Mao Asada - 2 GP
2 Akiko Suzuki - 2 GP
3 Yukari Nakano - RETIRED
4 Miki Ando - 2 GP
5 Kanako Murakami - 2 GP
6 Haruka Imai - 2 GP
7 Fumie Suguri - 2 GP
8 Ayumi Goto - JGP
9 Nana Takeda - [Sylvia ETA: status uncertain - she withdrew from Tokyo Regionals earlier this month]
10 Yukiko Fujisawa - JGP
11 Karen Kemanai - JGP
12 Ayane Nakamura - not scoring that well so far this season...
13 Satsuki Muramoto - reportedly injured
14 Shion Kokubun - JGP
Posted in the Entries thread in the NHK Trophy forum in Kiss and Cry:

According to the result on the JSF site, Nana (and Fumie) have withdrawn from the regionals. Also she is still on the list of the B team. I guess we can assume she has not retired yet. Not officially, at least.

This was discussed earlier in the thread at this point (http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?p=2855180&postcount=465).

Either it is because there was no one else to send or it is part of some JSF "strategy."

Ouch the withdrawals just keep coming and coming..

NHK is just a few days away so I doubt there will be a replacement for Berton&Hotarek. Too bad, I was really looking forward to seem them at the Grand Prix.

I want Glebova or Biryukova to get Cup of China.

Birukova hasn't had great results at her senior B's thus far so I don't know how likely that is.

:( Wow, that stinks. And pairs field continues to be decimated by injuries and other issues. The field at NHK is just blah.

True, but they usually take World Standings and Season's Best scores into account.

NHK isn't all that bad. I'm kind of excited, actually.

Geez, the TEB organizers reaally love inviting very very OES.. I guess that is cool and fair enough but I still wish some bigger teams like MTowersMoscovitch, NovikKuznetsov, BrodeurMattatal, SimpsonMiller etc would have more than just one event. Actually the whole pairs field should be expanded to 10 pairs per event.

Yes, please!

When ISU reduced Pairs spots from 10 to 8, there were very few pairs competing internationally.

Since then the discipline has really bloomed, much more pairs are competing now and they should definitely go back to 10 spots per event.

It's unlikely to be Coomes/Buckland as British Nationals is on at the same time as TEB.

So far C/B's international results have been clearly highest out of all the British pairs (bar Kerrs ofc), so NISA should really give them a break and let them do the second GP if they were offered one.

That stinks about Borodulin. He still could be Russia's number one. It's possible even with Gachinski winning everywhere.

Not if Gachinski skates like he did so far this season, he wouldn't.

I'm totally bummed about Berton/Hotarek and Gimzo. I hope this doesn't mean she finally retired. I totally want to see her skating with a cane at 2050 Olympics! :cheer:
