But Candice is not ranked in the top 24 and does not have a top 75 SB score from last season, right? IIRC, the only GP event she can do is TEB.

Sasha Cohen was entitled to no events last season, but she received 2.

Sasha Cohen was entitled to no events last season, but she received 2.
Cohen got her events through the old Olympic season "due to injury or no fault of their own" rule that allowed top skaters (1-6 at worlds) returning to competition to get up to 2 GP assignments.

Skaters/couples, seeded in any previous year (place 1 to 6 in the respective World Championships), and who due to injury or no fault of their own, were forced to sit out competitive season(s) could be considered for selection for up to 2 assignments, if they return to competitive skating.
source: 2009-10 GP announcement

Cohen last season is not a host pick case.

Sasha Cohen was entitled to no events last season, but she received 2.

As HW explained above, Sasha was eligible due to the injury rule allowing world 1-6 skaters in the last quadrennium eligible for 2 GP events.

Candice has never been top 6 at worlds, and is therefore not eligible under this rule.

Aww, too bad. Well, she's still on the Skate America roster, two weeks later. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

Lepisto's w/d from Canada really makes that event interesting. There's no clear frontrunner anymore. I'm curious to see how skaters like Phaneuf and Czisny handle the pressure, and how Zawadzki and Makarova do in their SGP debut.

The following was posted on 9/30 in the Finlandia Trophy thread in Kiss and Cry:

Laura Lepistö has cancelled her participation to Finlandia Trophy. Her hip is already better now, but after she has started training again, she has had problems with her achilles tendon and also some old minor injury, which has to be taken care of. :(

Her next scheduled competition on Skate Canada, but she will decide later if she is ready to it.

Time for Cheltzie to get a GP?
Bummed for Laura, though. :(

As for Canada, I wonder if it's time for Alissa to win a GP.

From other reports on FSU, Cheltzie seems to be taking the fall international season off to focus on academic exams.

Alissa won (http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs_cr_00005527.htm) Skate Canada in 2005. ;)
