2010 ISU Congress: The Good - The Bad - and the Just Plain Ugly!

Meetings got underway today for members of the ISU Technical Committee and Sports Directorate in Barcelona. Tomorrow more pre-Congress meetings are on tap for the Technical Committee, Sports Directorate as well as Council Members.

According to @SkateCanadaCEO on Twitter, The 2010-11 ISU Grand Prix Assignments should be posted at ISU.org by 9:00 a.m. European Time Sunday morning.

The Official Opening of the Congress takes place at 9:00 a.m. European Time, Monday. Below is the Congress Schedule

The ISU Congress includes both figure and speed skating, and meets to vote on proposals. Grand Prix of FS selections are always done ahead of time separate from the actual Congress.

The individual Grand Prix events are not the property of the ISU. Each Grand Prix is organized by the Federation hosting the event. The ISU sanctions each event. Skater selections are made during meetings of representatives from the host countries.

The Grand Prix Final is the property of the ISU as are all the Junior Grand Prix events.

The German Federation just tweeted (http://twitter.com/Eislauf_Union) the following (I've google-translated them into English from the German and tweaked them a bit for clarification ;)):


ISU Congress: age policy for Juniors and Seniors unchanged. Novice-age for all disciplines consistently at least 10 yrs. - max. 15 yrs.

ISU Congress: SYS (Synchro). The Congress decides to ISU World Junior Championships in synchronized skating.

Yeah actually it is the closing banquet because on Friday the Congress actually ends. The next 2 days are only for the council and the drafting committees that just wrap things up, the delegates are going home already by then. Hope that makes now more sense to you :)

Thanks, HisWeirness! :) I can also confirm that ISU Senior and Junior age limit proposal nos. 43-45 did not pass today and that no. 46 (Novice international age limits) was approved with amendment as follows: d) ii) 13 changed to 15 years old; and (iii) deleted.

He's probably searching for a loophole to just implemement them without anybody's consent now. :scream:

This is kinda scary. I haven't been following all the threads since the age changes were first mooted so I'm curious to know why Cinquanta would be furious. Why would he want it so much?

Maybe he was looking forward to having only about five junior pairs and eight junior dance teams in the junior worlds, to reduce costs? ;)
