Congrats to Ghana - nice to see an African team go through, but sad it's as the expense of the US :(

My thoughts exactly. It's good for Africa, but the interest will take a nose dive in the US now. :(

Yay, Ghana!! Good for them to stay in.

That was such an entertaining game. The US had SO many chances and couldn't get it in the net. It could have gone either way. They both really put it all out there. I enjoyed watching this match up.

Bye, USA :(

They played horribly in the first half, but they had so many chances in the second. After their brilliance at the end of the Algeria and Slovenia games, I'm sad that players like Donovan and Howard had what was probably their last WC experience in a game like that.

 Ghana has a pair of players with dual yellow cards, there was a penalty shot, and most of the tackles involved the defender touching the ball before making contact with the American forward. Exactly what is the bias?

Well, several fouls that Ghana did which were of the same nature as the ones the US did and got yellow for Ghana didn't get yellow for, especially in the first half. And the yellow card and penalty was actually a red card because it was the "last guy" and apparently that's an automatic red card. (I don't make the rules) And then there were two elbows in the face that didn't get a card at all but in other games players had gotten red for (I'm not saying I like the red but the yellow would have been nice)

I think the US deserved the cards they got but if a foul gets a team a yellow card then when the other team commits the same kind of foul it should be given a card as well. That wasn't the case in that game.

Can I repeat how awesome it is that all 5 South American teams made it to the knockout rounds? :respec:

Balderdash, you negative nelly! In totally unrelated news, ta soccer, I'll see you again in two years when you're in London! :P

But, seriously, I'm glad I gave WC another shot this year. Guess I am truly American because "football" doesn't get my heart racing like other sports unless full of scores/last-minute heroics. OTOH, those highlights are :kickass:

So I'll certainly watch the impending Netherlands/Argentina final! ;)

Congrats to Ghana and glad that Africa is still in this! :cheer2: Got a tough on coming up in Uruguay, though. Get some rest!

Happy for Ghana but I soooooo wish it was not at the USA's expense. I really like this American team. They have some great talent and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future for sure. And I for one hope that Donovan sticks around for Brazil 2014. :) Still have heartbreak over them leaving the competition but Africa deserved to have a team still in the competition. But never thought that it would be Ghana especially since they are missing Essien.

Great indeed.
Too bad they'll start knocking each other off Monday already...

*gulp* nervous for England. I just have a funny feeling though that we're gonna edge this one. I say 2-1. People here are already going crazy. Flags out of most windows, far more cars on the road than usual for a Sunday morning, and I'm just about to head off to the supermarket where apparently there's already a queue forming. No doubt we're all stocking up on booze to get through it all. We sure take it seriously here. ;)
