On a more superficial note: I love Bazarova's dress.

Me too. So pretty.

I hope they post more tomorrow or post Maria and Jerome. K/S seem very tenitive, I would be too if I had as many health problems as they've had.

Maria/Jerome did not participate in this test skate. I think K/S are still recovering from their injuries at this stage. Good luck to them!

throw of K/S is so unique with her arm over the head. Russian nationals this year will be lot better than Europeans in pairs with so many good teams. they should invite S/Z and that will be the real Europeans,

Bazarova looks healthier than she did in the photos posted earlier in this thread, thank God. Her dress is indeed lovely. :) They seem very well prepared. Their SBS jumps have no unison; however, I think her technique has improved. They got a lot of height in their throw flip - love that. And I also really liked some of the moves they had - the entry to the DS, th entry to the twist adn that move where he's hydroblading? and she's in a spiral position.

V/T - there were some really nice things in there: their twist looked lovely and so did the spiral positions. But obviously they still need more time.

That was in their sp. :)

Nope, it was in the LP, with the Prokofiev music. But maybe they've changed it to the SP now.

Some skaters did their long and others their short today. I'll post my little review shortly.

Short review of the test skate, first day, in Odintsovo (Sep 18).

Only three ladies were skating. Polina Schelepen and Roza Schevleva were originally entered, but didn't come. I know that Schevleva was sick, but I don't know why Schelepen didn't come.

Sofia Birjukova. SP „Tosca“. 3Lz-2T, 3R, 2A, all jumps shaky, nice spins, nice elegant flow overall.
Aljona Leonova SP „Circus“ (by A. Schnittke): 3Lz step out, 3F-2T, 1A out of spiral move, spins slow. She is sick with a cold and maybe she won't skate tomorrow. The program is really good, it was a bit flat today as she couldn't pull it off with her usual energy, but there are a lot of nice little ideas (choreo: Pasquale Camerlengo).
Lisa Tutkamyscheva: SP „Oriental Selection“.3Lz-2T shaky, 3R, 2A very solid, nice spins, interpreted the music very well, sold the program

Elena Ilinykh/Nikita Katsalapov were the only ones to do their Free Dance. „Don Quixote“. Ballettic program, suits her very well and shows them from a totally different side than their „Schindler's List“ last year. It is very good that they went into a completely different direction, I think. The program needs polishing and mileage, but it should be very good. They could have been a little bit more innovative with their lifts, though.
Kristina Gorschkova/Vitalij Butikov. SD One Waltz piece. It was okay, but not exciting. The twizzles were out of sync at the end. Her dress was beautiful, a yellow Waltz dr.ess (I think she had it last season for the CD)
Bobrova/Solovjev. SD to a modern Waltz with lyrics, some well known song. I did not like the music at all, I felt it was repetitive and annoying. Overall they looked like they were holding back.
Rjazanova/Tkatchenko. SD to a classical Waltz piece. Lovely. Very strong especially in the first section of the Golden Waltz part, but lost a little energy towards the end of the program. I didn't like the last lift when he grabs her leg and yanks her around, it looks clumsy.
Monko/Khaliavin. SD to „Padam Padam“ by Edith Piaf. Good energy and solid elements.

Iliushechkina/Maisuradze. FS. 3S, good 3Tw, she crashed on the triple toe two-footed the throw triple loop. Finished after their music. apparently improved from what they did a the past test skate.
Gerboldt/Enbert. FS. 3T-2T-2R, messy 3Tw (maybe they should go for a good double instead), she doubled the sbs 2S, held on to the throw triple loop. They doubled the throw Lutz, it looked intentional. I've seen them doing triples in practice in St. Petersburg. They are very enjoyable to watch and it is amazing how quickly she adapted to pair skating.
Bazarova/Larionov. SP „Secret Garden“. Sbs 3T shaky for both and out of unison. So this problem still exists. 3Tw, high throw triple flip. A bit slow overall.
Kawaguchi/Smirnov. „Thus Spoke Zarathustra“. I like this program, it's cool. Powerful. 3T she stumbled out of it. I think she doubled the throw Lutz, again intentionally. Nice, dance-like slst.
Volosozhar/Trankov. FS „Romeo and Juliet“ by Prokofiev. 3T steps into 2T, 2Tw high, she doubled the sbs 3S, fell on throw triple loop and touched down with her hands on throw triple Salchow. They need more polish, obviously, but the potential is obvious. They have been skating together only for four months now (sind mid May). Stanislav Morozov looks perfect as one of the coaches at the boards, so serious!
Martiusheva/Rogonov. FS „Swan Lake“. An off-day, unfortunately. She has grown. Both fell on sbs 3S, she singled both Axels and crashed on the throw Salchow.

Not so impressive.
Artur Dmitriev FS „Dark Eyes“. This gypsy program suits him well. Jumps were mostly messy today. He fell on the second 3A.
Artem Borodulin. FS to some boring fake classical music. Landed first 3A after not hitting it in the warm up, but went down on the second 3A. Popped the flip. Landed the remaining four triples, but no 3-3 combo.
Konstantin Menshov. FS to Michael Jackson. Better than the music from the horror movie last year. 4T-2T, but then he messed up most of his other jumps as he usual does.
Artur Gachinski. FS „The Lady and the Hooligan“. The role of the hooligan is good for him. He apparently was tired from the competition yesterday and the day before yesterday in Dmitrov. There, he skated well according to his coach Alexei Mishin, today he was off. Popped 4T into a double and singled the first Axel, doubled and stumbled on some other jumps.
Ivan Tretiakov. Last year's FS. Hit a 3F-3T and 3A, fell on 3Lz, doubled a loop.

Voronov didn't show up, but I forgot to ask someone official why.

Maxim doubled 3S, Taya did 3S/

Eislauffen, no Anna Ovcharova at test skates? Does this mean someone else will be taking her place at the JGP Japan next week?

Thanks! I'm really impressed at how well Katarina is doing in pairs so quickly. Obviously they need a lot more time to gel, but what they've shown here is really good for such a young team, especially when one partner is new to the discipline.

Lisa Tutkamyscheva needs a good nickname.

Thank you; Eislauffan for the review. I think they all can be really good by Russian Nationals.

I like the music G/E are using but I wish they would just do a triple/triple or triple/ double instead of a triple/double/double...it looks too labored.

I wondered why V/T didn't to a triple twist; she seemed to have more than enough room.

I love love love K/S music! It is so powerful! I wonder who in that camp has a thing for the '2001 A Space Odyssey' soundtrack? It's the second year in a row they have used something from it.

I wonder though why they have such trouble with the split twist? He has such tremendous upper body strength you would thing he would have no problem throwing a 90 pound girl in the air and catching her.
