I spoke to Polina Shelepen and her coach Eteri Tutberidze. They would have liked to go senior, but when the new age rules pass the ISU congress, she will be too young for senior and will stick with juniors.

As for Sergei Verbillo, he wants to continue. He actually is having a try-out with Alla Beknazarova right now! Alla's partner Vladimir Zuev has to retire because of ongoing knee injuries.

ETA: I saw their try-out today. It looked not bad. But they said that nothing has been decided yet.

Oh, thank you very much!
But the new age rules didn't pass yet, right? So maybe she will have a chance to go to the senior Grand Prix

I heard the new age rule would not be enforced until the 2011-2012 season?

I heard too, but I don't know for sure.

What does she mean? What is the proposed new age rule for seniors?

Under the current age rules skaters can compete at the JGP and Junior Worlds since 13 y.o., at the senior GP since 14 and at the ISU competitions (Worlds, Euros) since 15 y.o. Under the new age rules skaters will be eligible for senior GP only since 15 y.o.

It kind of makes more sense that way I guess, I remember in 2005 Mao was skating on the senior GP and won the GPF but wasn't allowed to go to the Olympics because of her age - it seemed so stupid because she was competing against the same competitors on the GP and was considered a senior lady there, but then had to go to junior worlds again that winter because of her age. Caroline Zhang also did GP at 14 but had to do JW that same season, it seems to make sense to move up to senior all at once so you don't have to change your programs around.

Gosh though, I'm trying to figure out what's going to happen with Russia's JGP team though. They get 14 ladies spots right? Likely it will look something like:

most likely definite:
Agafonova - 2 events
Ovcharova - 2 events
Shelepen - 2 events
Tuktamysheva - 2 events
Sotnikova - 2 events

more questionable (there are a lot of other good skaters - don't know what the protocol for selection is):
Birukova - 2 events
Sheveleva - 1 event
Zazeva - 1 event

Eislauffan, thank you so much for all this information!

You are amazing! :respec:

I really hope Beknazarova/Verbillo are going to skate together. Alla is such an incredible, expressive skater. :)

I saw Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov today and they just have been practising three days. They were relaxed and happy.

Although I really liked Mukhortova/Trankov and I'm sad about their split, I think that Tatiana and Maxim look good together and I'm excited to see how they'll look like in a few months.

It's going to be a long season waiting to see them. I presume Russian nationals will be the first event that will be available on the web?

Russian Cup series maybe?

I've never seen any internet host/TV show this, but maybe they will. I'll pay for a subscription to WebTV or Russian TV if they do. We can only hope.
