View Full Version : When a Hollywood legend watched Yu-Na's performances at the Olympics..

I recently found an interesting story on Kirk Douglas' blog (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=171170276&blogId=529967964).

After watching Yu-Na's performance at the Olympics, Mr. Douglas, a Hollywood legend, wrote on his blog that Yu-Na's performance reminded him of his skating with Peggy Fleming at the Lake Placid Carnival.

He said he had to skate across rink to the throne holding onto Ms. Fleming since he was the King of the Carnival and Peggy Fleming was the Queen.

And he added, "I wonder if Yu-Na Kim will ask me to skate with her..." :)

Anyway, what is the Lake Placid Carnival? Is it still held?

This is awesome!

He should ask Yuna. ;) I'm sure she will not hesitate to skate with a Hollywood legend. :D

I Googled Lake Placid Carnival (111th Annual Winter Carnival Saranac Lake is the site of one of the oldest Winter Carnivals in the country complete with an Ice Palace. Winter Carnival is scheduled February 5-14, 2010.) - and found it was up to 111 years!

When is Yuna Kim gonna win a Nobel Prize?

LOL, this reminds me the story of Audrey Hepburn attending Peggy Fleming practices at the Olympic Games in 1968. I don't know if it's true, but it was writen in a Patinage Magazine. ;)

This (http://www.lakeplacid.com/shared/whattodo/events.htm) seems to be the link Sassafras intended above.

Kirk Douglas said Peggy Fleming won the gold medal, so I guess the episode is from the 1965 US Nationals that was held in Lake Placid. Maybe the Lake Placid Carnival was a kind of exhibition at the time?

Anyway, it's also interesting that Fleming and Kim will soon go head-to-head in the "greatest ever" bracket (http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=361758).

Soon. If North Korea and South unified because of her diplomacy she will win the Nobel Peace Prize.
