So I'm going to Springfield Ohio for training for 3 days and I fly into Dayton. If I get stuck there over night is there anything interesting to do.

No. JUST KIDDING!

The Wright Patterson Air Force musem is intersting. Is that the kind of things you mean? Or do you mean like bar hopping and stuff. ;) Unfortunately I don't know about that kinda stuff. I'm boring.

IKEA!!! :) (Sorry, suffering IKEA withdrawal here out in the boonies.)

Um, there's a kind of creepy giant Jesus sculpture (in front of a church) rising out of the ground off of I-75 as you're heading into Dayton. I'm sure it wasn't meant to be creepy but the way it's situated is, well, strange.

I've lived here all my life (a south suburb actually) and I'd have to agree with the first word of your post!! ha ha Actually, I guess it depends on what kind of thing you are looking to do. I'd be interested in seeing anyone else's comments. (Uh, if someone is in training during the day, is the AF museum open in the evening?)

oops ... missed that part. Yea, its only open 9a-5p. Sorry. But it is an interesting place to stop if you have daytime hours to kill. :D

Big Butter Jesus. Kinda cool, especially when you are just driving along and don't know its there and then see it all of a sudden. Directions at the bottom of article.

What days will you be there? You can check to see if there are any concerts at the Fraze Pavilion those nights. Its in Kettering, Ohio, so not too far from where you will be. I LOVE Fraze Pavilion for concerts! Its very small and intimate and situated right in the middle of a boulevard. Not a bad seat in the house, not even on the lawn or terrace (bleacher seating). I drive from Cincincinnati to see concerts there versus Riverbend in Cincinnati because the Fraze is such a better venue.

What a coincidence, my mom was just in Dayton to visit a friend. I'll have to ask her. Unfortunately I think she flew in, so she might have missed the giant Jesus.

If you fly into the Dayton Airport, you won't be anywhere near Ol' Touchdown Jesus.

The Air Force museum is one big zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz if you ask me. It's a plane. It's another plane. It's a whole lot of planes and then a whole lotta jets. There is a small but interesting Holocaust exhibit, but otherwise, zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Where are you staying and are you going to have a rental car? Springfield is about 25 miles from Dayton, so if you are staying in Springfield, you might to look for things to do there instead of Dayton.

What night might you be stuck and what do you like to do?

Isn't that called Football Jesus or Touchdown Jesus or something like that.

It's actually rather famous around these parts. (and by these parts, I mean FSU) ;)

It depends on who you ask. It's also called Drowning Jesus and That #$(*&# Ugly Thing by the Highway.

aw, I kinda liked the Air Force museum. :shuffle: I thought it was neat. Maybe it was because I was with my cousin, who was in the Air Force to 20 years, so he loved it and told us every little detail about every little thing there. Kinda had a specialized tour.

I'm just not into fighter jets. I spent several years at the base working on pilot studies; there's not a lot about cockpits I still yearn to learn.

My favorite thing there is the IMAX theater.

When I went to college there in the '80's, we hung out in the Oregon District. Lots of fun bars & shops. Anyone know if that area is still hopping? Otherwise, I'd just look for some town festivals or special events at one of the universities. Have fun!

I think there's an arboretum in between Dayton and Miamisburg. I flew into the Dayton Airport once to get to Miamisburg, but I was going there for work so I didn't have time for sightseeing. However, I remember taking a bunch of those pamphlets from the hotel in case I ever went back there. I remember the taxi driver (a native of Dayton) telling me that I should go to Cincinnati if I ever came back.
