I use a couple of programs suggested by a tech friend of mine. I use Revo Uninstaller for uninstalling programs, especially antivirus software. It scans for left over registry files and uninstalls them in the process. I use the free program and it works great.

I've used Trend and AVG full version, and both of them are pretty large in size. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials now, which is free to anyone using a Windows Operating System (XP, Vista, Windows7). It protects against malware, trojans, spyware, etc. and it's small in size.

the problem is OP has McAfee on her computer.... GOOD LUCK getting it off, it's a NIGHTMARE to uninstall. I didn't even take the "Free" that came with my service because of past expereince in trying to get McAfee off. (it's worse then Norton IMHO) I used the regular uninstaller and it seems to have worked - I can't find McAfee anywhere on my program lists. I downloaded the Microsoft package and so far, so good.
