What a wonderful story, thanks for the links. It reminds me of a cute cycling story I just read. The IOC recently awarded Olympic medals for a team cycling event from the 1948 Olympics (http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/06/news/ioc-finally-awards-goldmedals-in-1948-cycling-event_120220). Apparently the guys that won didn't realize the race results were also used to calculate a team event as well as the individual medals, and just got on the bus and went home.
