Is it true, or just a rumour that the location for Skate Canada will be announced in November?

the bid process is complicated and you need to do A LOT of leg work before even submitting it. Rationale for doing it the new way. If SC wants to continue receiving funding from the gov't it must rotate the competitions aorund the country. In some instances the costs greatly out weight the revenues coming in. If clubs bid on it, they will have an established volunteer base, a lot of the leg work will be done for htem and in reality only bigger areas with support will bid on events. That means that SC doesnt have to rotate events but they still get their funding (we could see the same location recieve events year after year based on the new structure)

Well, I hope it's not in some far-off corner of Canada...........there are a lot of them :D

I was hoping for Kingston but I guess that too much to hope for at this point, but Montreal would be nice. :)

I'm assuming that if Winnipeg gets the bid for worlds, they will want to hold a test event in the next year or two. I'm assuming this because it's what they did in Edmonton in 1996. It has been almost 10 years since Winnipeg has hosted a big event, so I would think that would be a wise plan. From that point, they can then make decisions about Skate Canada and Canadians.

But, that is making the big assumption that Winnipeg will win the bid to host the world championship. Just a possibility for the delay...

Probably more likely that the new bid process is causing some hasstles... based on what has been described in the discussion.

Maybe Vancouver will get to host Skate Canada this year. It's been a while since we hosted an international skating event (he!he!).

All kidding aside, I hope it is given to Winnipeg. My goal is to visit all the provincial capitals via Skate Canada competitions (I have visited 5 of them now). I would love an opportunity to visit Winnipeg.

But which ever city is chosen, I look forward to finding out soon.

Are you me? One of my goals is to visit every Canadian province and territory before I kick it. Maybe Skate Canada will be held in Nunavut?
