OlieRow - you said it re: them competing in Sochi. There is nothing to judge in terms of ice dance so far so unless Russia has absolutely nothing else to offer, I don't see them as any sort of factor in Sochi - at least not yet. A top level ice dancer is not built in a day or a year or several years. And if an ice dancer could be built quickly (and who better to know that chances against that but his mother) that skater would have to start with incredible edge control which is not, from what I've seen, Andreev's strength - his footwork is pretty weak and forgettable. I don't expect much - actually I don't even expect the pairing to last until Sochi. Maybe I'm wrong.

Totally agree, and as musch as I like jana (not her crazy flexibility) I don't see fedar as srtong partner, is not thta is suck as a skater, is just thta Ice dance at this very moment is full of talent skaters thta traing together for a long long time, and its getting more difficult seaosn after seaosn. For now i can't see them competing against the top world teams and even agaisn I/L (wich I thik is the best opition for Russia to consider for Sochi).

Sochi? No offense, but we haven't seen anything from them and you're expecting them to cause a stir in Sochi?

It's called delusion. :P

Does Mom have anything the Russian Fed wants in exchange for 'Wait until 2018'?

I am still :wall: over Jana's decision to skate with Fedor. The guy has ZERO experience in ice dancing - can he even do twizzles? So the try-outs with Stagniunas didn't work out, but Roman Zaretski, Matthieu Jost and Attila Elek are still available - why stick with Fedor? Or maybe the whole idea of skating with Fedor came up because Jana is desperate to skate in Shpilband/Zoueva's camp and partnering with Fedor was the only option they could offer?

Don't wanna be negative here, but if they really do team up, the best thing Jana can hope for is 6-th place finish at Russian Nationals behind Bobrova/Soloviev, Ilinykh/Katsalapov, Monko/Khaliavin, Rubleva/Shefer and Platonova/Grachev. :(

TAT, Ovsiannikov, Shehovtsova and also Jana's previous coaches, Svinin and Zhuk, watched the video where Jana skates with Fedor, they did twizzles, footwork, etc. They all said that it wasn't bad at all, but Jana needs to work really hard if she wants to skate with him. I guess it means that Fedor has some experience in ice dancing

Just because...
Fedor's 2003 Canadians LP to Firebird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbdYzx7G19M&feature=related)
Hey, since Jana skated to it this year, why not compare? Of course, Fedor's had jumps and was pre-COP, but still... And it was the skate of his life (where there was a bit of an uproar that he only came in 3rd instead of making the World team over Jeff) - and apparently that quad was ratified though it wasn't clean.

At least Fedor is already used to a variety of costume styles - that will work well in dance.

I used to think that Fedor's skating style somewhat resembled Ilia Kulik's with the big sweeping movements, but Fedor's a bit more refined. In some of his other performances (like his 2004 Canadians SP) you can see a bit more of his edge control, speed, and that one even has twizzles!

Has Jost broken up with Orlova? I haven't heard that yet? :(

About Andreev: judging from the video he has indeed uncomplicated footwork but that was pre COP so maybe he just couldn't be bothered. His edges are pretty good and what I noticed most was that he glide is very effortless and smooth. More so than from the average single skater.

There is no way that they will be able to compete against Ilinykh/Katsalapov if these two keep making progress at their current rate or just stay about as awesome as they already are. But I wouldn't put it past them to make it on the team next year because apart from I/K there isn't really anyone standing out magnificantly.
Bobrova/Soloviev had sort of stagnated (we'll see how the coaching chance will turn out) and the other junior teams are good but not awesome yet.
There are three places at Euros, aren't there? And with her reputation...it will help!

On V/M's official site, Andreev is listed as one of their coaches:

http://virtuemoir.com/thanks.php

Ever since seeing that, I've wondered in what way he could possibly be coaching an elite ice-dance team.
Sometimes I feel that I'm the only one who's not listed as their coach.

You have to try harder, Andrey!
I hope Fedor will manage to do the porny handbag lift with Yana.
