Kimberly Caldwell's CD has been moved from April 6th to sometime in July. If I'm remembering correctly, this is the second time the CD has been delayed.

I'm really curious about Jason Castro's album - the single a few months back was really disappointing, so I'm hoping the delay means they did some reworking of the CD and made it more like what we saw on AI last year.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Melissa Auf der Maur, so will buy that one for sure - also loved Jakob Dylan's last CD so will check it out. You mentioned his former band, but not his father - he sounds different, but definitely has the poetic talent. :)

That is a really bad sign because she already began doing her promo with her first single!

I saw her on Ellen and it was a terrible performance. It couldn't have hurt to push back the release.

It made sense for Jason Castro, too. His first single was not as bad as Kim's, but it was pretty weak. But, it's weird that his main album has only eight songs on it. From what I've heard, the other songs are better than that first single and it's nice to get a complete version of Hallelujah, but I have a feeling his label already has kind of recognized that he's not going to have a lot of success.

That Slash album looks pretty wild. That's a pretty diverse groups of singers he's working with.

I really wanted Jason Castro to do something Dylanesque - poetic and acoustic. My favourite songs of his are Mr Tambourine Man and Forever in Blue Jeans, and I'd love to hear more in that vein - perhaps the laid back folky California sound of the early 70s. Sigh.

Picked up Melissa Auf der Maur yesterday - it's excellent! If you like Melissa that is; I'd put it in a category that might include Evanessence for example.

So, I'm listening to Jeff Beck's new album streaming here:

http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/6

And I've decided that, if anyone skates to Nessun Dorma again, they must use this electric guitar version. I think Yuna could do a cool, sultry, and powerful program with this. It would be a good challenge for Jeremy Abbott, too. I could see one of the Japanese guys using it, too.

Good to hear. I still play her first CD constantly, so I definitely have to pick this up.

Apr. 13 – Straight No Chaser – With A Twist

I'm really curious about Jason Castro's album - the single a few months back was really disappointing, so I'm hoping the delay means they did some reworking of the CD and made it more like what we saw on AI last year.

It's funny, when I heard Jason's single, I thought, "Wow...that is a HIT!" I was just barely a Castro fan, so I was surprised to enjoy his single so much. I heard his single on the radio before I heard it mentioned anywhere else, and I hardly ever listen to the radio, so I thought this was a sign that he'd have major success with the song, but 'twas not to be...

Peter, the albums from Jason Castro, Jeff Beck, and Straight No Chaser are streaming in full here:

And what do these three artists all have in common? They all have recorded Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The Castro album streaming here is the eight track one, not the 14-track one, which has Over the Rainbow.

This week's top 10:

1 (2) My World 2.0 - Justin Bieber
2 (1) Raymond V Raymond - Usher
3 (-) Slash - Slash
4 (5) Need You Now - Lady Antebellum
5 (3) NOW 33 - Various Artists
6 (6) Still Standing - Monica
7 (9) The Fame - Lady Gaga
8 (8) My World (EP) - Justin Bieber
9 (4) NEW AMERYKAH: Part Two: Return Of The Ankh - Erykah Badu
10 (-) Sticky & Sweet Tour – Madonna

Slash and Madonna are the two debuts (in the top 10). Normally I’d find it surprising that Slash had better sales than Madonna, but this is his first release in 10 years, and Madonna’s album isn’t new material, but a live CD. And while watching Madonna live is great, how many people want to only HEAR her live? Still, a top 10 debut is good, nonetheless.

It’s interesting to see both Usher and Monica doing well with their albums. I thought maybe were both past their prime, yet both have stayed in the top 10 in their second and third weeks on the chart. Often hardcore fans all go out buy an album the first week it’s released and then the next week, the album plunges down the chart.

And it looks like the negative reaction to Erykah Badu’s new video hasn’t hurt initial sales of her CD. An article about the controversy:

And Erykah’s video:

Other debuts in the Top 50 this week:

#12 – Women + Country – Jakob Dylan
#15 – I Learned The Hard Way – Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings
#23 – Go – Jonsi
#36 – April Uprising – Jon Butler Trio
#44 – Shame, Shame – Dr. Dog
#45 – Midnight Souvenirs – Peter Wolf

Got back from seeing Jonny Lang at JazzFest in New Orleans. My goodness, the dude is INCREDIBLE! I kept getting the chills. I have never seen someone who feels the lyrics the way he does. He truly tells a story on the stage and of course his guitar playing is probably the best in the world. If you get a chance you must go see him. I didn't even know his songs and I loved every minute. Need to get to downloading the ones I can remember...
