:( I love Portland, have been there three times on business, but it's expensive and a long trip from DC.
Maybe, maybe, if I plan it right, this could be the year I go to TEB instead. It's only an hour more to Paris!

:inavoid: YAY! Do plan it right and come to TEB - while it still exists!

The same quadrant of the country that's been close to two Winter Olympics and three nationals and how many Skate Americas recently? Sheesh.
Hi USFS -remember us? Detroit? All the stuff you used to do here? Them were the days.
Oh well, maybe I'll schlepp over to Mids in A2. :shuffle:
When does SkateCanada announce dates for, um, SkateCanada? (Altho' it was just over the border in Ontario this season, so IT will probably be in Vancouver too. :P

If that's the case, I may get to two events in the same season for the first time in years :)

SC is supposed to announce the locations for the upcoming Skate Canada and Nats the beginning of April. What I heard is that there will be 1 event in the east and 1 in the west. I wouldn't bet that BC will get another event this year tho. But who knows..........(shrug)

Question: Is the choice totally up to the USFSA or do the cities have something to do with it too?
Don't cities have to bid on being a venue or something like that?

I think different cities bid and the USFSA decides which of the bids would be the best location.

Re- selecting cities, this is all hearsay, but the second time Reading had it, I heard they were asked by usfsa, because noone bid for it. I have been to many SAs the past decade ( 01, 03, 05-09). Attendance has varied. Don't know if money was made or not.

Well, attendance in Everett was excellent.

I am not a fan of USFS. However, SA is probably NEVER going to Detroit, Chicago, Boston, New York, LA or other major cities any time in the near future.
They aren't thowing the hockey teams out of town for a week for what this brings in :)
Honestly, this is a mid city size event and as I have said, USFS probably doesn't have a ton of choices in where to go. They have "high expectations" of what they want. I have heard way too many stories of "no one wants it" to believe it's not true. It's not a big draw for the cities and they see no real need to meet the expectations for it. Rumor is there have been some "Guilting" in some cities to get them to take the thing.... Even Nationals has moved down from the big cities to more "second tier" cities (in size not quality :) ) Spokane, Greesboro, etc... Not Boston, Detroit, LA....
And PRLady, TEB was GREAT! Go Have Fun! IF it wasn't Thanksgiving I would be there again this year!
Just out of curiosity, who will they have as their top US skaters?
Mirai I assume
If Evan stays then Evan
If Johnny stays will Johnny get SA?
If Johnny and Evan don't do gps, then it's either Rippon or Jeremy. As a fan I like to see Jeremy but I won't cry unfair if Rippon gets it instead. He did well this season

I think the National Champs get asked if they want to do SA, and I'd expect Abbott, unless he tells USFS he'd prefer not to. Neither Lysacek nor Weir nor Plushenko nor Verner is seeded for next season's GP, although they'd all be guaranteed spots based on season's best/world ranking.

Last year Evan got SA; it didn't sound like Jeremy turned down SA at all. I thought a couple years ago Johnny said he got to pick his gp assignments after the higher ranked skaters stated their preferences (don't remember if it was higher ranking at worlds or ISU ranking).
Rudy was 1996 national champ and Skate America went to Todd. He mentioned that in his biography.

I've attended sixteen competitions in the past ten years, and Evan has been at every single one of them. I need a break from him. I want to see Jeremy and Adam!
