The new Doctor Who will begin airing in the US April 17th, on BBC America. I understand that it will run at Easter - one week earlier than the US - in the UK.

Thanks. I wonder if the CBC will have it this summer? My husband is a huge fan.

2 weeks earlier in the UK. I believe April 3 is the date for the first episode. :) I'm mostly over going from Ten to Eleven, so I'm looking forward to see what the first season of Steven Moffat's Doctor brings. I'm also looking forward to season 2, which will have an episode penned by Neil Gaiman. :)

Hope they show it in Canada again. If not, well....(there is always You Tube, where I saw every episode with CE and DT).

I am so excited to discover the new doctor !
I am a bit sad about ten being "dead", but anyway, it's gonna be great with Moffat

So, how was the initial episode with Matt Smith? One person on BBC Radio Scotland said she loved him, despite missing you-know-who.

I've seen advertisements on The Space Channel (in Canada), saying that they will have the first episode on Saturday, April 17, at 9:00 pm ET.

There's a trailer on EW.com (http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/04/03/doctor-who-are-you-psyched-for-the-new-season-and-the-new-doctor/) (scroll down). I'm very sad about Tennant leaving, but look forward to Smith. He seems as though he could be a good, quirky Doctor.

It was amazing! Thought it would be weird without Tennant (he was the first dr I have ever watched, and loved him), but Matt Smith did a very fine job with it.
The new companion was good too.

Really looking forward to the rest of the season!

I just finished the first episode and it was brilliant! My first introduction to Doctor Who, and I cannot believe I've missed out on all the previous seasons.

I also like the "Doctor Who Confidential" that accompanies each episode. I wish more shows (e.g. Mad Men) would show what occurs behind the scenes.

I'm so excited! Now if we could only get some new Torchwood episodes, and I'm not talking a US messed up version.

There will be new Torchwood episodes. Season 4, 13 episodes:

Scary news - a US version of Torchwood is coming:

Saving graces - it may not suck. Author is Russell Davies, carries the original production team, and the channel is Fox.

What's scarier is that no one seems to know if the US thing would be a spin off or if the show is moving to a US channel altogether (since RTD and Gardner are both working for BBC America these days). I saw a recent interview with Barrowman where he said he has no idea what'll happen (UK vs US), but that RTD has said Jack won't change if s4 is on an American network.

Personally I can't see how he could *not* change or at least be rather toned down unless it's on cable. Then again, if it's on Fox it'll be axed within 4 eps anyway. :shuffle: (I'm hoping for a s4 on BBC ;))

DW: I quite liked Eleven and I certainly liked Amy (kid!Amy was great!), even if the first episode is mostly just setting up the new characters. I'm looking forward to ep 2. :)
