I do hope there will be at least a shred of story inside that FD, otherwise I'm afraid this might be one of their least interesting FDs. The idea of tango is  in general. Plus I really hope this whole focusing on lines and positions doesn't mean they're gonna loose their power, speed and drama. Well, I hope they'll surprise me, cause for now I'm a bit disappointed. Safe was never their word and now here we go...

Here is a link to the Il Postino soundtrack.

Quite a few of them are realllly slow . I'm hoping that they chose a faster one like #13, "Il Postino Poeta".

Just listening to the 3 pieces they've chosen, it seems that there should be some variety in tempo...

I think, they will made pure dance without storyline, because they never skate FD without story - pure dance. Maybe they want to try do something new in this season.

meaning becoming more like Tessa and Scott? not liking it at all... I'm sorry, but pure dance is usually boooring... :P poor guys, maybe they think they have to become similar to V/M if they want to be appreciated and beat them one day...

They've already beaten them.

yeah, but I meant at the major competitions, worlds in particular. So what they've beaten them at GPF and 4CC if they're still so much behind if it comes to worlds' medals.

I know what you mean, but honestly, the difference in their points is minimal. D/W actually won the FD at Worlds. But yeah, I'd love to see them win, even by hundredths of a point!

I think you'll see that they are doing the story of Il Postino, not just 'pure dance'.

Perhaps in the vein of DelSchoes Frida.

I don't see them trying to be V&M-if that were something they thought they had to do, you'd have seen them trying it for previous years, not just suddenly after Olympics.

I see them trying to be the best D&W they can be...and I think that's the right way to go, too.

I'd say they're already appreciated, to be fair they only lost Worlds by 1.40 points. I expected a fair bit more of a gap since Tessa and Scott had just won the Olympics. There's no reason for them to suddenly decide to change their style to be just like Tessa and Scott.

I think "stories" in ice dance are overrated. If the body movement is good, that's all I care about.....

Right. And no need, either. I honestly think the judges could go either way and actually have done that already and I agree that the gap between them was smaller than expected. Just tells me that Meryl and Charlie have proven themselves to be strong competitors to V/M (and Scott and Tessa readily admit that fact) and there is no need or reason for either team to change who they are...as Doris said, they simply need to try and be the best that they can be and stretch their limits, do whatever they want to do. It's because they love to skate that they continue and I'll be happy to watch them compete for as long as they choose to.

It's great they are trying something new for them, that's what it's all about. And if the judges like what they see, so much the better!

I didnt say, they becoming more, like Tessa and Scott. I only think this could be dance without story, because they never did this before in FD - thats all. But will see.
And i cant imaging, they become Tessa and Scott at all - how this could be?

Using Il Postino suggests that there may be a story to it because it is clearly linked to a movie and I wonder if the other two pieces are just used to build on it since there is not a lot to choose from that soundtrack. I am thinking that they meant to explore their skating in being more subtle as in Eleanor Rigby-esque instead of loud, resounding and dramatic POTO or even SD for that matter. I would hope that they don't want to turn into copycats of V/M.

Totally agree.

I don't think they've said anywhere that they want to be more like V&M. All they're saying is that they want to become better dancers. They're focusing on positioning and having a greater range of expression. I'm thrilled because that's what I've wanted for them all along.

IMO, what really makes ice dancing different from pair skating is that ice dancing is more than just two people skating together. It's two people dancing together while skating. You need more than just great skating skills to be a great ice dancer -- you need to be able to dance!

In some ways, while I complained about the POTO program last season I think it may help them in the long run if they can take that "command" and "power" that they had to learn and make second nature to sell that program and transfer it to the more subtle or nuanced pieces of music that they're using this year. (As much as I liked Eleanor Rigby at first that was what was lacking in their initial debut of it- that ability to confidently own a complicated piece of music/choreography. They're so much better at it now.)

At least I hope that's what they'll do...

I can't wait to see the new programs. :biggrinbo
