I don't see staying and leaving as either/or. If they've been skating competitively thirteen years together and continue on to Sochi that will be 19 straight years without a break. Even G&G burned out around 1990 and went pro. Seems to me that if ever they were to take a break, the year following Vancouver would be the best time, leaving three years to aim to Sochi, or at least consider Sochi year by year.

If they decided to go that route, do you think they can realistically take a year off and come back still at the top? Part of me thinks that if they give D/W a year to dominate (because I don't see anyone outside of V/M being at their level next season, in 2 years I think it'll be more even at the top) they'll have a very hard time recovering momentum. However, with all the new changes coming into play next year it could be easier. I fear dance is going to be a bit of a hot mess while everyone tries to sort things out.

I don't think it will be a problem to take (just) one year off. They are the OGM's/World Champs and the skating world will be eager to see them back. Their talent is not going to go away.

Tessa's injury-plagued year didn't halt their momentum very much; they came back stronger than ever once she was healthy. Of course they will be duelling it out with D/W, but that's going to be true whether they take a year off or not.

I think it far more likely that they will come back for next year with something innovative, then maybe call it quits after Worlds '11. I see them staying 2 years, max, and certainly not until Sochi. What do I know though...

I can also see them sticking around for another 2 years and then calling it quits.

Less than a week and I will be seeing them live. Can't wait! :)

Here you go .. I think that by stating this in the news article that Tessa and Scott are leaning towards staying in .. he makes that comment towards the end of this article.
