Daniel O'Shea announced on his Web site (http://www.figureskatersonline.com/danieloshea) that he is relocating to Ellenton, Fla., to skate pairs with Caydee Denney's younger sister Haven. She finished seventh in junior pairs with Daniel Raad at nationals.

How about Chock/Stagniunas? Zuerlein is so bland, Stagniunas at least has some personality...

Well, there will be citizenship issues for sure. Copely was denied Lithuanin citizenship after skating with Stagniunas for 4 yearss.. don't know why Chock would be different. Khokhlova was a much easier choice due to the easyness of getting Lithuanin/Russian citizenship between them.

Plus, now that the Shibutanis have stagnated, C&Z are still in a pretty good position for the 3rd US dance team in Sochi, I dont think they are considering a split at all right now.

I dont want Deividas to be another wasted talented partner though, I hope he finds someone.

C/Z finished behind the Hubbells at 4CC.
I just think Chock should get a better partner than Zuerlien :shuffle:

C/Z finished behind the Hubbells at 4CC.

Let's just recall that the Nationals Free Dance was on Saturday in Spokane, with C/Z beating H/H in both OD and FD. The teams had to leave Sunday for Korea, and then had to lead off with the CD early Tuesday. I'm sure both C/Z and H/H were severely jet lagged, so I don't think the 4CC results are particularly significant with regard to these two teams.

I'd always trust more the results of international competition than domestic ones. How much was the distance between these teams at 4cc?

I have no clue why they officially split, but I can tell you that Alba is TALL. She was standing next to me in sneakers in Spokane, and she was probably 5'6" or more. Knierim is over six feet, but I still think that it would be challenging in the lifts.

Then there's the GP events:

153.92 Chock Zuerlein, sixth overall, SA
149.17 Chock/Zuerlein, eighth overall, COC
143.28 Hubbells, eighth overall, TEB
141.63 Hubbells, sixth overall, SC

Looks to me as if C/Z just had a rough competition at 4CC

Khokhlova was a much easier choice due to the easyness of getting Lithuanin/Russian citizenship between them.
Is Lithuania likelier to grant citizenship to a Russian citizen than a US citizen? Estonia, another Baltic country, has hoops to jump for its ethnic Russian population to get Estonian citizenzhip.

If the point is for Stagniunas to get another citizenship, while the Russian field is deep, with Khoklova, I don't even see it being an insurmountable obstacle for them to get one of the two spots for Russia next year. Were Stagniunas able to get US citizenship before Sochi because he's been living in the US for training -- I don't know what his status is now -- I don't know of an American partner with whom he'd be a good bet to get one of three available spots.

I know there was a rule that if a team split, the partners could get invites to GP if they had a certain placement the year before. Does anyone know the details, and whether the rule still applies? (Although if it applied to Khokhlova, Stagniunas couldn't skate with her in GP until after the 2009 Rostelecom Cup dates.)

g) Pairs or Dance couples, who were placed amongst the ranks as previously mentioned in criteria a) and b) in the year 2007/2008 or 2008/2009, but have split, will be considered in the alternate list with the new partner, if proof is given that they intend to continue the competitive career.

It was in the 2009/2010 GP Announcement, http://isu.sportcentric.net/db//files/serve.php?id=1446 .

Boy Hubbell!

Anyway, Stagniunas would be completely overshadowed by LaKhok in terms of presentation, but he's a more agile skater than Novitski and would at least allow for them to have more complex choreography and balanced footwork.

Jana's a total rockstar and deserves a good partner and choreography.
