OMG just watched 2 eps and I think this may need it's own thread!so I came thru on my threat and started a thread about a CDWM Classic! (http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/showthread.php?t=70630)
Yesterday and today was her "Slow Cooker Savings":
Pot Roast with Roasted Root Vegetables - not bad, but I don't know why 1) she called the gravy she made from the "joos" from the roast and cooked veggies "gravy" at all; it was simply pureed stock and veggies. Sauce would have been more apt. She cooked the meat on low for eight hours. I've done this. But half an hour before the meat was ready, she roasted some potatoes, turnips and carrots in some oil and spices. I've seen Robin Miller do better. She says homemade pot roast is way cheaper than store bought - because you'd have to buy a frozen pot roast, which is more expensive??? ??? Slice roast beef, maybe, but once again, she does the smoke and mirrors stuff she learned from her QVC days.
Corned Beef and Cabbage with Herb Buttered Potatoes - "It's already done, so you don't have to do any of the work", she said. Most corned beef comes in a brine and with its own seasoning packet (she was positively orgasmic!), so it's pretty much a no-brainer. But she added a cup of apple juice and a cup of water, which I had never heard of. Oh well, maybe Semi-Ho can teach us something. I also learned that there are two cuts of corned beef. These were served with potatoes, boiled, buttered and herbed. There was a li'l factoid that popped up on the screen that gave me a chuckle, "red potatoes cost more, but you don't have to peel them and they look prettier".
Tangy and Tart Iced Tea with Mint - She snuck in the phrase "It's cocktail time" with this swill, which was 4 cups of ice tea (.99 cents), 2 cups grapefruit juice, 1/4 cup mint syrup, topped off with a rather generous serving of rum. Urp. The rum added almost $3 per serving, but has the price of booze ever stopped SLoP?
Brown Sugar Banana Spice Cake - cooked in a slow cooker, which is jerry rigged with a ring made out of foil to put the cake loaf pan on top of in the slow cooker, and some paper towels put underneath the lid to keep the condensation off the cake, which was made from her homemade baking mix of flour, baking soda and shortening. She topped it off with homemade chocolate whipped cream. Too many different flavors for me - why not just leave the cream plain. And get this, the cake cooks in the slow cooker for four hours! I love slow cookers, but this russipee seems stupid to me.
Round 2 Russipees: Southwest Beef and Black Bean Chili / Roasted Vegetable Pasta Salad - pretty pedestrian; the chili was made using some leftover pot roast, canned black beans and diced tomatoes. You can watch her make the pasta salad on the Food Network website if you wanna.

I swear, I don't know, skatemommy! I've seen frozen legs of lamb before, on sale at a low-cost market, but that is it. I think she's bullshitting us myself.

"stupid" doesn't begin to describe it. Why not just bake the frickin' cake in the OVEN???

Anything to justify her existence on TV I guess. She's made so many desserts in the slow cooker, this for me is one more crappy one out of many. She talked about how expensive slices of banana cake are in those "fancy-dancy" coffeehouses - all of $2, she claims. Banana spice cake like this is popular because it's cheap - and QUICK. No one is gonna sit for four fricking hours to eat it!

Where on God's Green earth can you purchase a frozen pot roast? and why?we used to call them "TV dinners" and they are more expensive because you don't have to do anything but heat them up and then throw away the tray. I like the ones that come with their own brownie.
