And Henin wins! :cheer2: :( for Dementieva.

:( for Blake, too, but :) for del Potro. Weird to be watching two close, high-powered, second-round matches where I like both players.

Oh, Elena :( So many chances; she just wasn't quite aggressive enough, IMO! Sigh. Congrats Justine (and Delpo)

I'm so glad Justine and Delpo won! :cheer:

Gutted for Elena, I so hope she will win a slam someday

The 3rd quarter is interesting; Justine and Kim are playing well, obviously, but so is Sveta (is it me or she looks slimmer?) and Wickmayer. Azarenka was great last night too - her QF with Serena should be interesting. On a shallow note, I love her pink outfit!

^ITA with *everything* you said; Sveta DOES look trimmer. Kim and Justine are playing great. As is Wickmayer, and Vika - who looks fab in her neon pink!

second game and Shrieky Vicky has yelled at the umpire twice already.

Ivanovic on the verge of going out to Dulko

So Ivanovic did lose to Dulko. Not really that much of a surprise considering how far Ivanovic has fallen the last 2 years. Its amazing to think that just 2 years ago she won the French Open and also made the finals in Australia.

16th seed Na Li is fighting for her life against Agnes Szavay. Li had to hold off 2 match pts on serve to tie the second set at 5 all. Lost the first 6-4.

Ivanovic will be back. Her problem is 99% psychological and you can still see that killer instinct her. If she manages to get her serve back, she'll be ok. She's still very young.

Ivanovic needs to friggin' practice how to toss the damn ball. For like 4 hours a day. Seriously.

If you look at her in 2008 she had no ball tossing problem. She re-did her serve sometime last year around the time when she was crumbling under the pressure of falling from #1. My brother knows her from way back; I went to the US Open this past September and I sat in her box with her team. She went out in the first round and you could really tell how much her serve problems influenced the psychology of the rest of her game. Hope she recovers.

I agree that almost all of Ana's problems are mental - but that doesn't mean it's going to be any easier to fix. Something needs to change - her coaching, her approach to life in general, something in her personal life, her career goals, her perfectionsim - SOMETHING! Whatever it is, she needs to work it out, and start again. She's too good to be playing like this.

Congrats to Gise though; always had a soft spot for her!

Sorry but I'm not at all convinced Ivanovic can recover from her slump. It may very well be over for her. Time will tell.

Kutzy kind of recovered from her slump. I mean, enough that she won another slam.

Kuzzy was never in a big slump. She kind of just stays at the same level all the time, chokes alot of matches vs top players, loses most matches to top players, but hangs in the top 10/sometimes top 5, and when a draw opens up at a slam makes a final or wins one. She won the U.S Open in 2004, was runner up at the French in 2006, was runner up at the U.S Open in 2007, and won the French in 2009. So I dont see how she ever had a big slump when she keeps reaching a slam final every year and a half.

I agree she should be playing better but she is another player who I think benefited from the soft period while Henin and Clijsters were off tour, and Sharapova was AWOL with her injuries. It was just the Williams sisters and the 7 dwarves. Now that the womens tour is getting some stability again with the comebacks and the up and comers, we will see the non elite weeded out from the elite.

I dont think Ivanovic is a top 5 player amongst the current crop. Her forehand is great but she doesnt have any other outstanding weapons. She is capable of getting back to the top 10 if she gets herself back together perhaps.
