^Yea I think Fat Dave ( ) is nearing the end too; and dare I say, he's a BIG underachiever?! ;) Seriously, he's so talented, but never quite got "it" done if you know what I mean.

OTOH I fear Oudin may have almost over-achieved last year; she had some great wins at W and the USO, but I wonder if she played above herself because they were big names (and, at the USO) in front of a home crowd where momentum played a big part. It's really hard to tell what her standard level is, what she's capable of and where she ought to be ranked. I guess once the slams this year are done, where she has many points to defend, we'll know better.

Dementieva just lost to Pironkova in Warsaw - a DREADFUL performance; she really seems to be struggling this year.

Simona and her puppies started their winning FO campaign with a win, and a bagel :) :saint:

Urgh, I can't stand Wozniacki and her awful father. :o She was down 0-3 in the 3rd set of her match against Hercog, and says she needs to take an injury time out and tells the umpire she can't wait until the changeover because it hurts so much...then proceeds to win the next 5 games. That's just bad sportmanship.

She makes it seem like she's on her deathbed every week. If she's so injured in the first place, why is she a.) playing every week; b.) playing an insignificant tournament the week before a slam and c.) moving so well? :blah:

^Tell me about it. Are you on WTAworld, oleada? I posted a similar post as you did here on there re: Caro and got a few bad reps  Bless em, blind fans. I quite like her game style, but there's something which realy irritates me about her AND her godawful father.

Yes, I am. Same username, but I don't post very much. :)

I love WTAWorld.Trollery at its finest.

^It's like a bloody zoo. You're so right, comedy nutters over there.

WTAWorld is nuts. I used to go there as often as I do here but I mostly stuck to the Off Topic sections. Haven't been there or posted in a while! I quit posting in the main sections when Seles quit playing.

Another good day for the US men in qualifying for the FO. US men went 4-0! :) Winners were Jesse Witten, Ryan Harrison, Alex Bogomolov, and Michael Yani. I really really hope Harrison can make it thru. This kind of experience at his age, he just turned 18, is invaluable for his career. He lost in the 1st rd of the Aussie Open this year.

3 US ladies advanced to the 2nd rd of qualifying. Bethanie Mattek, Julia Coin, and Madison Brengle. Mattek next plays former US Open QF Elena Bovina. If both Mattek and Brengle win in the 2nd rd they will play each other in the 3rd and last rd.

Richard Gasquet might be quietly getting it together. Last week he won in Bordeaux and this week he's in the QF's in Nice with another chance to win the event. Go Richie!! :)

In other news....Juan Martin Del Potro is now saying he will skip the US Open so no defending the title for him. He hopes to be back for the Paris indoor event.

Is Donald Young even trying to playing qualifying? I am pretty sure he was not given a wild card.

Wait, Julie Coin is American now?

05-19-2010, 11:33 PM
It's Julia Cohen, not Coin.

Oops, me bad! Thanks for the correction oleada.

Young decided to pass on trying to qualify for the FO this year! Don't know why. Ryan Sweeting was the winner of the US wild-card (which I assume he won in a mini-tournament held by the USTA).

US men went 1-1 today in qualifying for the FO. Ryler DeHeart won but long time veteran Kevin Kim (age 31) lost 7-5 in the 3rd. Tomorrow is the final day of qualifying. 5 US men will attempt to make the main draw.

Bethanie Mattek is the only US lady left in ladies qualifying. She did good to beat Elena Bovina in 3 sets today. Her final match is tomorrow.

Draw comes out tomorrow.

Gasquet is a semi-finalist in Nice tomorrow.
