Where? With whom?

Perhaps tv specials. Who knows. He is painting himself into a very small corner now. So sad.

You think Johnny would have a better chance of getting TV specials if he had developed his artistry than he would skating to pop music?

:scratches head:

I don't see that at all. I think Johnny's chances of getting on a TV special would be highest if Lady Gaga got a special and invited him to perform on it.

But even if Johnny had developed into some amazing artist who skated to whatever music people who don't like pop listen to and that there was a substantial enough audience for such a production that he would merit a TV special, I don't think he would be getting such a deal anyway. He doesn't have an Olympic medal. He's male. If Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes and Michelle Kwan didn't get their own TV specials in a country where US ladies' skating reigns supreme, why would Johnny?

There are limited opportunities in skating. Johnny does not, IMO, have enough pull to create his own tour. That means his work is limited to what is available already. The corner is already small.

I don't disagree with your analysis of Johnny's options in skating, but I'm a little puzzled about your comment on Kwan -- she certainly had TV specials. It was a different era, and she was a much different persona than Johnny, but I rather distinctly remember watching...

If Johnny worked on his skating skills perhaps he would have been a world champion and/or an Olympic medalist. I think he could still be at least a world medalist again. I loved his programs from the 2006&2002 quads and I liked his programs at the 2010 Olympics but he wasn't the "skater" he was 4 years ago imo.

What can I say? I don't remember any Kwan specials, but I looked and did see one--"Reflections on Ice: Michelle Skates to the Music of Disney's Mulan," back in 1998 when she was the expected gold/actual silver Olympic medalist.

Were there any others?

Yes, there were.

Yes, there were.

And they were?

ETA: Never mind, I found some others--more Disney, which is why I never watched them.

One was something played before Nationals: Princess on Ice (?). I remember she wore a mohawk and Ilia Kulik was on it.

And Sarah Hughes also had a TV special after she won Olympics. Also not very memorable.

Huh. Well, that just shows to go you--the ladies rule--and I bet they didn't get very good ratings, either, or there would have been more of them. Peggy Fleming did specials for YEARS.

Which still doesn't leave Johnny in a very good position for getting a TV special.

Boitano had several TV specials -- they were generally very good.

Oh I remember it, including the skit with Robin and her joking about ordering triple triple ice cream.

Tara also had at least one special that I recall- Hip Hop on Ice, but I thought she had some others before she stopped skating.

Tara had another one..she skated a duet to Malaguena with Kurt..and skated to another # while her mom was in a swing.

Michelle's third Disney special was 75 yrs of Disney Magic..or something to that effect.

Clearly I need to watch more skating specials.

Tara's special was pretty good, as I recall. The "Spice Girls" number was a low point, but I enjoyed the tango number with Kurt. :)
