Count me among the ASPCA and Child Fund avoiders. I just love the part when the ASPCE tells you you'll get a photo of a pet in a shelter, as if that's something I'd want.

The two I got were beautiful. One was a big fat tabby cat named Princess. :glamor:

I did a lot of coursework in marketing and have some professional experience from earlier in my career. I love looking at the ad blocks then letting my husband know the core demographic of the show we're watching. FWIW, news is white people over age 50, so that's where all the phama commercials go.

I have determined the core demographics of the ads by the local hospital systems

Generally:

During the Today show, The View the hospital ads that will run are ones for the Labor/Delivery departments.

During the soaps, noon day and evening news/Wheel of Fortune the hospital ads that run are the ones for heart and/or stroke care

On Fox channel around 7:30 pm the local Children's Medical Center will flip the logo and time/temp up on the screen

During the Early local news (when professionals are getting ready for work) the success stories of brain tumors, injury care will air

I wonder what is more offensive the shear number of times this commercial plays or the actual footage of the horrible looking animals. I also wonder if this backfires on them. There are a couple of animals that I actually wonder if they shouldn't be put down for humanity sake, they seem to be suffering so much.

IMO, if they plan to show the ASPCA commercials so much, then they should mix up the horrible images with a few cuties that are ready to be adopted into a home.

When I see a dog that cannot stand or walk, and all the bones are showing, I don't think..."wow I want him". I am sorry, but I don't want that dog. JMO.

Count me in as one more person who can not watch the ASPCA and other animal shelter commercials….. Since all of these organizations are on my monthly donations lists anyway, I don’t have the nerves to watch these ads.

I am not too sensitive to “bad or good” commercials, I rarely watch them. TV is on in my office, I occasionally life my eyes off my work when there is something interesting

However, recently I developed a great distaste for commercials which try to do more than “to describe and sell me a product”, and cross the lines of “imposed social engineering” and “political correctness in Obama times”.

Many of my relatives and friends noticed the same issues, and we will specifically not buy any products which run commercials that use slogans from Obama campaign (Yes we can, Power to the People, The Change word), or the ones that create artificial PC scenarios, character selections and situations not very common in every-day life in USA.

We all hate being “handled” and “rail-roaded” into various “social thinking and forced acceptance” of not very realistic scenarios, and having “socio-political agendas” shoved in our faces in a simple product commercial.

That’s all I am going to say…..

I agree that I hate most of all these. The one I really can't stand is the yogurt one with the blonde woman. I think it's Dannon. She slurps down the yogurt and then looks around to see if anyone saw her as she wipes her lips.

It just pisses me off.

Also Sunday night as I was watching Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters I saw the be all and end all of the drug commercials. I don't remember the name of the drug but it was for arthritis or something. The drug side effects included cancer and cardiac arrest.

it is one of the newer arthritis medications. Only they didn't tell you that some of the earlier drugs side effects also included cancer. My uncle was unaware of how the meds that he was on could and in his case cause liver cancer

After seeing the commercials over and over and over during the BBC America "Doctor Who" marathon this weekend, I never want to see Jamie Lee Curtis or Activia yogurt again. I guess BBCA thinks most Doctor Who viewers are extremely constipated women.

I also can't stand that Laurie Metcalf charity commercial; her deep distress would be a little more believable if she weren't so clearly reading off cue cards.

Yep, I will add all the drug commercials to my list of hated commercials.

They won't be going anywhere since the drug companies have so much money, but the list of side effects they are forced to read are a real turn off.

I guess the hope is that Americans will shop for drugs like they do for sneakers. Hear about a great new drug and run to your Dr. and tell him you want some.

I miss the good old days when the drug companies used all their marketing dollars on Dr's not the public.

I love when the side effects include anal leakage. I need to meet the people who think that is a good trade off, from a distance.

I know we've been through this before but the ones that consistently make me run for the mute button are the FreeCreditReport.com ads. I absolutely LOATHE that smarmy greasy looking guy with the annoying dubbed singing. I hate every last one of those commercials, and I wish they would at least come up with a new type of ad.

My bil (semi-retired) loves to watch Gunsmoke. My nephew (who is 18) loves to remind him of the demographics of the people watching--those who need viagra and scooter chairs!

I do not like (OK--now I'm blanking on the drug name) it's one of the depression meds commercials where the lady has that wind up metal doll of herself. That doll is just CREEPY!! Especially at the end, when she is holding the doll and smiling at it.

I do like the gecko--the one where he gets sucked up the mail tube is a favorite.

yes, I hate that depression med ad, it is creepy.

The gecko is fine, it's the other Geico ads (cavemen, stalker googly eyed money) that drive me crazy.

I liked this commercial at first. Now I hate it because it's shown on every channel I watch.

1. Every Walmart ad. (I wasn't sure if they were product ads or a speach extolling the name of Walmart)
2. The Jim Beam ad featuring the "young gentlemen" renting puppies so they can "impress" the ladies.
3. This is a tie. All male enhancement products and all of the drug ads.
4. The car commercials especially BMW, Lexus, Cadillac and Lincoln.
5. The "Popeil" / "Ronco" type ads. We get it - limited time, have your credit card ready, the ever popular repetition of the site name / or telephone number and finally the voice over in fifth gear and you can't understand what's being said.

I did enjoy the Geico "gekko" ads and all the Target ads. And I also can't watch the ASPCA and HSUS ads because I donate throughout the year to a number of animal rights and environmental organizations and know that the animals featured in the ads need and deserve human help.

Oh and I did like the Petsmart ad with the the two dogs being taken to the store to pick out their Christmas presents.
