He was at one point. Forbes magazine agrees with you.

http://blogs.forbes.com/sportsmoney/2010/07/tiger-woods-divorce-settlement-not-750-million

We've been tracking Tiger's earnings since he turned pro in 1996. Last year he became the first athlete to earn a cumulative $1 billion through his income from prize money, appearance fees, endorsements and his golf course design business.

Yet those earnings are before the tax man and his agents at IMG took their cut. And if you think Tiger made a killing in the stock market, think again. The S&P 500 is at the same level it was at 12 years ago. By our count Woods is worth $600 million and any divorce settlement is likely to be worth a fraction of current reports.

It could also include future income.

Still, even if it's half that, why did he even bother hiring attorneys for the divorce? :fragile:

It's so crazy to think a golfer can make that much money from endorsements and just golf. Even when golfers lose they get 100s of thousands of dollars. That's so ridiculous.

If I was in Tiger's shoes, I would have said, "Yeah, go ahead and blab all you want. After everything that has happened, you think anyone is going to be shock by anything you say? I'll keep my money. Thank You very much." :P

So Tiger's bought Elin's silence. But what about family membes, friends, friends of friends, etc.?

Yeah i really can't image what else there is that we don't already know unless it's cheating in golf or something. He really is going to have a hard time rebuilding respect anyway.

Most "superstar" athletes make the bulk of their income on endorsements not on the actual salary from their profession.

Its crazy all right!

And a young woman becoming a millionaire because she won an Olympic figure skating medal isn't equally ridiculous?

Of course not. It's Figure Skating. Duh! :P

Yeah but skaters don't get $100,000's for getting 4th at a championship. Wouldn't that be nice.

It definitely would be nice, but it all depends on the revenue the sport/athlete takes in. If figure skating were more popular and took in a larger amount of money, then the skaters would make more.

It wouldn't be enough money for me.

Divorce is fina (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/24/sports/golf/24woods.html?hpw)l as of today. I hope things can be relatively amicable (if that is possibe) for the sake of their children.

Good for her.

Thanks for posting this...she seems to be handling the situation as best as she can, with tact and class.

If you scroll down and read some of the comments some of them are truly  and

It really bothers me when people say "don't feel sorry for her...she's just a gold digger! She has money!"

Sure she's not suffering the way that many in true poverty (and I'm sure many of the people posting on yahoo have no clue what that's like either) do, but when will people stop subscribing to the notion that money buys happiness? I don't know Elin, but I wouldn't be surprised if she would much rather have an honest, faithful, loving husband over millions of dollars.

I agree. In photos of them together Elin truly looks in love with him. How sad to think she only meant a marketing ploy to him.
