I'm trying to envision what is going to happen in sideways world. I have this funny feeling that Sun being pregnant is a plot twist to get her to a hospital under the care of Juliet. Maybe Sawyer and Miles will be the ones investigating the shooting, and it will lead to Sawyer and Juliet getting coffee together.

I'm depressed that Sun and Jin may not get together in the end, and am hoping against all odds that they will anyway.
Against all odds? What did I miss??? I thought it was almost a given that they would end up together... :(
The whole Korean-only speak was kind of silly, but I always enjoy watching these characters slip into their native tongue.
What made you think it was silly?

There is a lot of discussion taking place about this line from Keamy. I missed it originally and don't know what to make of it. It sure sounds like he says "the island" but it could also be him saying "i, uh,..." or something similar:

Wow...this made me think that maybe everything works out really well in the flash sideways. And that on the island....everything turns to crap....

1) Nothing in particular. But the reference by Keamy to Jin that he and Sun aren't meant to be together. The separation they've endured thus far. I'm sure it's probably a set-up for what will eventually be a reunion (I hope!)
2) Sun hitting her heard and having aphasia (sp?) just struck me as silly. It just seemed to come out of no where. But I enjoyed watching her yell at Richard in Korean.

Another question! Remember when Ben went into the secret area in his house and he fished around in some water, finally pulling some kind of CORK? It let the water run out and that supposedly called Smokey to kill Keamy and his team? How does that work, because we all know Smokey was running around on the island before. Knowing what we know now about Smokey it just doesn't make sense to me. I see the parallel between the story Jacob said about corking the wine/evil. I just don't see why Ben did that when it sure seems like Smokey and Ben are not and have never been on the same team. It might make sense to me if that were the first time we ever heard of or saw Smokey because we could assume Ben released him but he was around in Season 1!

I'm worried about "Amazing Grace" being the theme to show next week's previews. I'm predicting buckets of tears and wet tissues here. That's not a good happy song! Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
...
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
....
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
...
No, definitely not a happy song in the conventional "Hollywood happy ending" sense, although one that can hold comfort for some. Having a supply of Kleenex on hand next week would seem advisable.

BigB, I wondered if that was a bit of a last resort, like turning the donkey wheel. Ben knew of Smokey, among other things about the island, and at the time things were getting more and more desperate so he was grasping at any straw he could. I think he also felt his power slipping away, and was trying to make some big moves to prove his superiority and at the same time throw up a hail mary as a last resort.
As for Sun losing her English, I thought it was just paralleling her loss of control and hope in the other reality as she realized her father knew what was going on and the money she was counting on was gone, not to mention being separated from Jin.

The title of next week's ep is Happily Ever After and the centric is ****Desmond**** and the cast includes Widmore and his secretary (so off island), Penny, Charlie and Eloise.

Anyone ever watch the movie "Sliding Doors" with Gwyneth Paltrow? Pretty much the same premise as the 'flash sideways'. Her life took 2 different paths based on one random action. You think that one was better than the other and then  I've got it on my DVR at home, may have to watch it this weekend...
Oh - and I'm pointing upthread to my post :P I caught the line from Keamy. One of the few things I did catch.

I understood Ben's motivations but it still doesn't explain what exactly he was doing. Was he releasing Smokey out of some kind of constraints? If so, what were those constraints because we have seen Smokey out and about on the island for quite a while. They even had the pillars so he could not get into their village area. So this explanation is wishy washy at best, unless we are to believe that he was under their control but they could let him out from time to time but he always came back? Not at all likely...

Was not really a fan of last night's ep, although it had many good moments. But the Sun/Jin story, which started so promisingly, ended up rather dumb and hokey. Did anyone think that those stray gunshots were NOT going to hit Sun? Or that Sun's money would still be in the account? And the aphasia? Really? grrr....
I did really enjoy the first hotel scene with Jin/Sun, where the reveal that they weren't married rolled out so deliciously. And the stand-off between MIB and Widmore was fab...I had a feeling that Widmore was going to throw a huge wrench into the MIB/Jacob feud. Sayid's role at the Hydra was great, and especially the scene of him swimming to the dock as Desmond was brought out :respec:
And yet........I was really hoping that the package would be WALT. It bugs me that the show made such a big deal about how special he is in S1 and now it's like he never existed. Yeah, there's no reason for Widmore and Walt to cross paths, but I just wanted it to be him and for Desmond/Penny to be done, since their story seemed to end last season.
I'm also really tired of looking at Claire's awful wig.

So, I've been really trying to get into this season, and I just haven't. There have been some really good moments, but overall, I feel pretty let down. I think the side-way stories are intriguing, but I'm not really sure what they are doing in terms of character development when we're not even sure that reality exists. There are now two versions of the characters, so how can they necessarily be developed?
If the shows producers keep insisting that this is all about the characters, I would expect bigger pay-off in that department. Instead, all we're getting is convoluted plots about needing 3 to get on a plane to keep the island cork from unleashing evil incarnate on Egypt and 815 people's first born will perish unless Alex can get into Yale while the one who sleeps with fishes must not be named and is Jacob's kin spinning the big wheel while breathing black smoke, and oh yeah, polar bears...it's harder than trying to follow a Sarah Palin speech.
I'm really hoping with only 6 episodes left, they start to reign in the crazy plot and try to absolve the characters.

I'll bet Sun's aphasia is because she was injured in both timelines and her alternate self doesn't speak Korean.
Also Widmore is putting a science team together to go to the Island in the alternate time line and perhaps Sun's dad and Jin are aware of it. I'm not super spoilered but it seems that is perhaps what Keamy's talking about in the Youtube video scene

I think that the sideways reality must have something to do with her aphasia, also. If this happened in an episode where she wasn't in the flash sideways then I wouldn't think so, I would just think it was a silly plot device. Is your spoiler code a spoiler or more speculation? Curious if I want to read it...
