Does anyone know what Komova's D score was on FX? Her score seemed low to me, as others mentioned. I know there was some iffy elements, such as the Memmel turn that she may have lost credit for. I was just comparing it in my head to someone like Larson who scored a 15.350 on Day 2 at Nationals and this score seems so low. I know she had one weak pass with the double tuck. Is she capable of a full-in? That would surely raise her score .1 or .2 I would think? Maybe scoring at Nationals was a little loose, imagine that!

Komova got credited with a 5.500 D score. To compare, Bulimar had a 5.4 and Tan had a 5.3

I wish gymnastics would post protocols like in skating.

Me too, I was just thinking that watching US Nationals. It could only help fans and others understand the code better.

Komova didn't get full credit for her double Arabian. The code only gives credit for up to an E for Juniors. She actually does do a full in but they watered it down here. And she watered down some leaps.

She actually didn't get full credit for a number of her skills like her Arabian on beam, which girl did anyways. She has done a connected Patterson before as well, but didn't do it her or at Juniors maybe because it wouldn't get full credit.

I think she didn't get full credit for something on bars as well.

Its funny but she may lose beam (partly because she won't get full credit for her skills) But I actually think beam is her best event.

I thought a Double Arabian was an E.

I preferred her beam to Tan's, because she was so confident and for the most part, rock solid. She works that apparatus so well. Besides, she's got lovely lines.

I thought someone said it was an F. Oh well I'll look it up.

Rewatching the vids, I've gotta say that Komova is the first gymnast I've seen in a long time that looks like she could belong on a former Soviet team. Just wow.

Watching Komova made me realize that I really do miss seeing well-done double tucks in FX. It beats seeing everyone doing double pikes.

I completely agree. This is what the Soviet gymnasts of the 90's would look like under this code of points. My favorite thing Komova does is quite simple (relatively) and common but her series on beam (flipflop-layout-layout) is absolutely stunning. She does it with such flair and grace and form.

I also love all the possibilities for upgrades she has. She can do the full in on floor. Her beam set can be upgraded by putting back in the Patterson dismount and she could surely change her split leap into a ring leap which is quite highly valued I think. I don't know all the technicalities of bars but I think I remember reading that there is areas she can upgrade on that event even though she already has a really good D score. Vault she has maxed out but she can continue to improve her Amanar.

Those were my thoughts exactly!

I hate age rules for a million reasons, and wish she could compete at worlds this year.

I read that incredibly long Shawn Johnson article, and it didn't even have skill updates!

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Does that make us superficial gymnastic fans?
