I was just curious as to what all of you think:

If you had to give your 'best guess' of who would make the 2012 Olympic team for the U.S. women, who do you do you think it would be? Do you think Bridget, Rebecca, Alicia. etc. will last? Any current juniors (e.g. Jordyn) that you think will make it?

I know it's aways off, but I'm curious who you see being at the top in 2 years.

Does anyone know what is going on with Reagan Courville? I see she is in the senior roster. I thought she had a ton of potential as a Junior but she seems to have had injury issues. Is she healthy, has she been able to keep up with the changes in the code?

Courville is looking a bit rough, IMO and hasn't really been able to keep up with her skill level (except on beam where she is still pretty decent). I thought she had great potential back in 2007. I think she's grown a lot and has had injury problems too.

She also got royally ripped off at the Classic meet on vault, doing a superbly high and far Yurchenko-full with only a small hop (the type of vault that would have scored 9.95 in Barcelona and would score 9.9 or 9.95 in the NCAA today) yet she got a 9.1 execution score. Sorry but I'm still upset about the way the judges seemingly double deduct on easier vaults and I've been wanting to type that for over a week now!!!!

[/end rant]

Danafan, please don't get me started on deductions being taken for easier vaults. I have seen PERFECT Yurchenko fulls being done and given LESS than a 9.0 for execution. It is outrageous and WRONG. I believe it happened even though I didn't see it. I am sure Courville is looking forward to college, I hope she signs with LSU!

BigB08822 - I would love to hear the judges justify their deductions for some of these vaults. I can't believe Courville's coach didn't raise a stink (maybe he did and we just didn't see it).

Here's a good example in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6QZ6WRpDmA

Now Leblond-Chartrand is not the strongest vaulter ever, but I actually saw the score sheet before I saw this vault and I assumed, having seen her do this vault rather well in person, assumed she must have fallen or had a major landing error as one of the judges had her at 7.8 - that's 2.2 in execution deductions! I mean honestly I could see easily justifying a score below 9.0 under the rules, but under 8? I'm convinced the judge in question just wanted to show off that she had memorized every deduction in article 8

Btw I am a national level women's judge in Canada, if that adds any credibility to my comments.

The womens roster has been announced. No huge surprises. No Shawn, Nastia, Sam, or Ivana...not that I expected them to be on there.

I've obviously been a bit out of the loop - why is Ivana out? Injury?

She tore her ACL in the spring and is out until October.

Chinese news....

:sekret:
Coach Lu says that Jiang Yuyuan is doing a lot better, and has emerged from her slump. She scored 59.35 at an internal competition during summer training.

Obviously, this is something to see to believe, but I hope it's true...JYY is a joy to watch when she's on.

He also talked about higher difficulty on vault for chinese gymnasts, so they probably have 3 dtys. But, what is scary is that he went to say chinese gymnasts have added more difficulty on Beam And UB, now what are their beam set difficulty 7.0?, and what will that make Hexin's UB out of, 7.5+?

I think chinese will win the world championships again.

Soooo hoping the news about JYY is true. She was my favourite gymnast of Beijing.

Is there any chance for JYY to be at Worlds. I think she would have won the AA last year had she not gotten injured.

I also think the Chinese will win the world title again. Their SV's are going to be so high, potentially, that they can afford some mistakes. The other teams in contention will have to be spot on during team finals to have a shot, IMO.

Yeah I was thinking that they'd struggle do to vault, but now that they have DTYs again, and beam and bars sets that are out of this world, I think they'll do this. And this time there will maybe be less questions about this team too, which is a good thing.

Shawn Johnson's Twitter from a few weeks ago:

OH & for all of u gymnastics fans out there... Progressing in training! Caught my yaeger & gienger today! Working on some crazy NEW things!

Interesting. I hope her comeback works out, but it's definitely going to be tough.

As for Worlds this year, I also think the Chinese will win. The U.S. team is strong, but the UB deficit will be too much to make up. I think next year's worlds and the Olympics in London could be a different story though...

I wonder if Johnson can be as good as she was "before"? Also, is Liukin coming back?
