Shapiro looks good, some more work to do but that is a nice start. I love how locked out she is on UB. With more time in the gym she should hit all those handstands better. What is her D score on that UB routine? I wonder how much upgrading she could do.

I don't see anything wrong in those handstands. It's a little hard to tell from that angle but she seems within the allowed 10 degrees. She doesn't immediately falls into a giant.

I think some of them were borderline and I think the International judges would take the deductions without thinking twice. They weren't glaring errors or anything, I wasn't saying that.

Her lines are so nice, but I do think some of the handstands are borderline.

I had a thought and was wondering if anyone could answer my question. Since Dawes now has a bronze medal from the team competition at the 2000 Olympics, is she one of the only gymnasts with medals from 3 different Olympics? I was trying to think of who else has done this and have only come up with Khorkina as a recent example, who did it after Dawes but kind of before since Dawes just got her medal, haha. I figure this was more common in the past when prepubescent bodies were not such a requirement. Who has done it more recently, other than Khorkina and Dawes?

By the way, I find Khorkina's accomplishment to be much more incredible because she got individual medals at each Olympics, whereas Dawes only received a team medal at 2 of hers. If we take this one step further, has anyone besides Khorkina medaled individually at 3 different Olympics?

Gymnasts with medals at 3 straight Olympics that I know of:

Larissa Latynina
Polina Astakhova
Tamara Manina
Vera Caslavska
Dominique Dawes
Svetlana Khorkina

Let's not forget Ludmilla Tourischeva. She was on the gold-medal Soviet team for 68, 72 and 76, and won the 72 AA. She only had individual medals at the 72 and 76 games, though.

Alicia's last statement was so wise, "It's better to have 2 parents than to have 4 coaches." That was the advice that she gave to parents of gymnasts--for them to stay out of the gym! Unless your Andy Memmel or Valeri Liukin, of course!

Is Alicia still at Brown? She didn't mention anything about college when talking about her daily routine.

Alicia's dropped out of Brown IIRC and was thinking about going to UCLA, but I don't think that panned out either. She made some comment awhile ago about how the LA thing "didn't really work out" for her - I think she was hoping to make it big after the Olympics, but that didn't happen.

:sekret:Apparently Sam Peszek wasn't at the training camp (which ends today). Instead, she was at flip fest doing seminars and such. This either means a) she won't be competing elite this season, or b) she's done with elite forever and ready to start NCAA (I'm leaning toward the latter)...

ETA: Raisman, Bross, Ross, Shapiro, Williams, Sacramone, Sloan, Whitcomb, both Caquattos, Hunter, Wieber, Vega and Larson were there (among others).

I dont think Sam has any hope to make the 2012 team so I am not surprised if she is ready to start NCAA.

I actually think she would have been the surprise one cut from the 2008 team had Bieger not fallen twice on bars at the final selection camp or had Worley been healthy. Sloan had proven her DTY was clearly superior to Sam's, and Sam had become redundant on the 2008 team even if healthy.

Yeah, it was quite obvious she was just there as a filler considering she didn't do anything in the Team Final.

One weird thing with 6-3-3 is that there always seems to be a member of a team (any team) that doesn't do anything in TF. It's incredible that the Chinese Beijing team was the only team to have won a competition under 6-3-3 that utilized all of their members for TF.
