I like the Russians on floor and beam, but something about their bars work has bothered me since after the 04OG. Mustafina is just like Semenova with the messy legs, sickled feet, weird piked stalder technique and dead hangs. Is it the difficulty or the coaching, I wonder?

I really like Dawes' quote; she's such a great ambassador for gymnastics IMO.
I love when she does TV commentary, too. Fire Dagget and Schlegel and hire Dawes!!

The Russian federation recently brought in two new people to head up their progra. But from what I understand the change was more for their young Juniors. Its their talented Juniors who they are banking on. My suscipicion is the longer Alexandrov and Ostanpenko are there, the more their juniors are going to look like Grishina and the less like Semenoyva. But for right now, I think they will try to clean up Mustafina, but they also need her to much to mess around with her technique completely.

Ana Progras is injured and will be in a cast for 3 week because of a fractured foot. Hope she gets well soon.

Hopefully Kayla will thrive under Mary Lee's direction.

Mary Lee tends to break all her gymnasts.

She had to move all the way to Ohio to find a gym willing to take her, that says a lot, not sure what about exactly, but it does say a lot.

I hope this isn't all for nothing. She is the vault world champion but she won in an extremely weak year. I am not sure how she would do in a year with the contenders back in action or others upgrading their vaults. Having been out of the gym for 2 months, I doubt she is working on any serious upgrades herself.

I wonder if she'll even make the US team. Most of the US AA prospects are quite good in vault; Raisman is now eligible and Sacramone is working on a comeback. Kayla's not really very useful on floor given her leaps. If the gym situation causes her to have problems, then the US team won't really need her.

Wow -- graduated from med school and already finished her residency. And doing some competitive diving. Just amazing.

So nice to see her with such a full and rich life after all those years of gymnastics and two Olympics.

Any suggestions as to which was her best routine ever? (At least, her best as defined by best-available-on-you-tube.)

Her 96 EF bars set is nice, as well as her 2000 OG AA performance (bars and beam in particular, but by 00 she stopped doing the double-double UB dismount).

Daniel Keatings has torn his ACL:

What a shame. He is one of my favorite male gymnasts competing today, and I so hope he can come back strong next year.
