Would beef marrow bones work? I used to buy them cut up, season them and roast them in the oven just to give them to the dog because they were so cheap. (Can you tell that I don't do a lot of cooking?;)
They will, but I still have to get off my lazy ass and get on the bus to the Italian Market to get some.

Ow! I guess so. Just the idea of waiting for a bus in this weather.
But man, I can smell those bones roasting in the oven right now.
Do you have a technique for roasting the bones?

Not really. Lawrys, pepper, garlic powder and throw them on a cookie sheet @ 4oo degrees until they smelled done. Sasha (my Cairn terrier) loves them!!!

Sounds easy....Tony Bourdain talked about spreading beef bone marrow on French bread and eating it....maybe Sasha would like that :).

I have never associated her with food! :)

My Sasha is a nut! She would lick the meat off and leave the bread. She has nerve enough to be a picky eater!

I made cookies the other day and halved the recipe because it made 8 dozen and I just don't need THAT many cookies  but I forgot to cut the butter in half. I was a little worried about how they'd turn out but everyone has RAVED about how good they are. They are pretty tasty I must say :D

Last night I made naan bread for the first time - it's as easy as pizza dough! And to think I've been avoiding any recipe containing yeast all these years, sigh.

Well, Paula is always telling us that it's better with butter! Those cookies must have been awfully rich.

They were very rich.. I made them again the other day and used the proper amount of butter and now I'm trying to decide which I like better

Puffy pancakes (or dutch baby or german pancakes)
2 eggs
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter (1 tbsp for pan, 1 tbsp for batter)
other ingredients to taste (cinnamon, vanilla)
Preheat oven to 400. Coat a 7" frying pan with 1 tbsp butter (melt in oven). Beat eggs together, then add rest of ingredients. Beat lightly until flour is in pea-sized clumps. Put batter into pan then cook until golden brown (~25 min). Batter will rise really high but deflates when out of oven.
I made this this morning, topped it with powdered sugar, sliced bananas, and a little maple syrup. Yum! But it only puffed up around the perimeter of the pancake and stayed flat in the middle. However, I'm okay with that as it tasted great! Don't know what went wrong, though...

Yay! And I just got Julia Child's famous French cooking book!
Does anyone want to share their favorite blogs/recipe collections? I love Smitten Kitchen (http://smittenkitchen.com/)because it is written very well and has gorgeous pictures. Whenever I need a recipe for something I usually check Smitten Kitchen and Joy of Baking (http://joyofbaking.com/) first, then Epicurious or google. But I do enjoy going to sites like Smitten Kitchen just to browse the recipes and look at pictures and I'm looking for more personal blogs like that.

I do like www.allrecipes.com because you can do a search on ingredients. So if I'm craving something or I have a certain type of ingredient on hand it is very helpful. I also like http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/
Shelly had a gastric bypass and has great high protein small meal recipes. Not epicurious, but I love that site too!
