And just as I predicted when I heard the news...Nothing's going to happen to the Ref, but Burrows got nailed w/a hefty fine for speaking out. :rolleyes:While I agree with you in principle, I'm not sure I'd call $2500 "hefty" for an NHL player.;)

Still though, the whole story was pretty embarassing for the NHL. By the way, the referee in question, Stephane Auger, also called the first two games of the Penguins Western Canada roadtrip. The roadtrip that ends tonight, in Vancouver. Hmmmm...

Regarding the Burrows-Auger incident - I am particularly appalled by Ron McLean's rant on CBC last night. Talk about a biased segment. I usually have a great deal of respect for him, but not last night. You'd think that Burrows was the only agitator to ever play the game!! On the other hand, Alain Vigneault's passionate defense of his player on After Hours was really great to see. I think this whole thing could actually make this team stronger.

Yeah he's definitely not the only agitator out there and Ron knows that. I guess he has to stick up for his fellow refs or whatever.. but seriously.. Burrows did NOTHING. It's one thing to call a questionable penalty when he actually does something.. but when he's just standing there?

I like Burrows a lot.. he's a hard worker and he's not afraid to get in there and dig for the puck. If this is really about making Burrows making Auger look bad by "making" him call a penalty that looked worse than it was then why didn't Auger think at the time to maybe call Burrows for diving? Or not call it at all? Jeez no one held a gun to his head.. it wouldn't be the first time a ref didn't call a penalty that looked like it should have been.. why would this case be any different?

Holy crap. The Hurricanes just named Eric Staal as Captain. Rod Brind'Amour will remain as an Alternate Captain. I thought this would happen at the end of the season... I guess they are getting ready to start the fire sale and want the new leadership in place before they do...

I was wondering when the All-Star was going to take place, then I found out it isn't going to take place  .

The NHL All-Star game will not take place in 2010 due to the change in the collective bargaining agreement and the fact that it is an Olympic Games year

Holy Crap!! The Leafs are no longer the team that folded last night to the Sedins and Burrows show at the ACC.

From the Flames Announcment I got in my In Box about twenty minutes ago...

CALGARY, AB – Calgary Flames’ General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition of forwards Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers, Matt Stajan and defenceman Ian White from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenceman Dion Phaneuf, forward Fredrik Sjostrom and prospect defenceman Keith Aulie.

and then...

They trade Toskala and Jason Blake to the Ducks for Giguere!!

Wow!!

Speaking of Holy Smokes.... the Kings just beat Brodeur and the Devils for their 5th straight on the road and 6th straight overall! Now if they could find a way to get Kovy from the Thrashers...

Kovalchuk is now a :EVILLE:

And will the noon game this Sunday between the Capitals and Penguins happen? It's going to snow a LOT on Saturday here.

*The Penguins play at 2 p.m. Saturday in Montreal -- will they be able to fly into D.C.?

*The teams, league officials and arena workers have to be able to get to Verizon Center.

*Is the arena is a position to staff a game and open its doors?

*Could Sunday's game, slated to start at noon, be pushed back a few hours? It's possible NBC wouldn't be willing to put the game up against the Super Bowl, which is at 6:30 p.m.

Yeah, been hearing that Washington's about to get nailed by a wicked storm on and off during the news tonight. Hope there's a back up plan in place.

I think the big thing in the Kovalchuk deal isn't so much he's being moved, we all know that was coming, but who the Devils sent in return as a piece of the trade. None other than Patrice Cormiere. Who is most often these days referred to as the guy who delivered one of the nastiest elbows ever seen, at least, Jr Hockey, than as the guy who was Captain of our Jr Team this year.

For him to going from the Devils to the Thrashers is like going from The Promised Land to the Worst Place on Earth in regards to Hockey Franchises.

The LA Kings look to create a new club record for consecutive wins today against the Red Wings when they look for their 9th straight. Normally I'd be excited about the teams chances, but they notoriously play badly on Saturday afternoon games!

BTW, budding Slovenian superstar Anze Kopitar is leading the team through this streak, the kid has been simply amazing. :respec:

I didn't know they use glove warmers between periods. Seems so... :glamor: .

And Matt Bradley asking Seau to tighten his jock strap  ; no wonder the show had a PG rating :grope: .

If the season ended today, San Jose would be the number 1 seed in the west. The number 8 seed? Detroit, who seem to finally be healthy.

Is it wrong that I'm kind of hoping things end up this way, just to see how Sharks fans would react?

Since the Sharks have a history of choking in the playoffs, facing Detroit is probably the last team they'd want to see. Heh Heh

GM's recommend penalty for (some) hits to the head: (http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=313303)

After three days of meetings in Boca Raton, Florida, the National Hockey League's general managers have put forward a recommendation for a rule change to address hits to the head in league games.

The following language was agreed to unanimously by the group:

"A lateral, back pressure or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and or the principal point of contact is not permitted.

A violation of the above will result in a minor or major penalty and shall be reviewed for possible supplemental discipline."

The recommendation will be forwarded to the NHL and NHLPA competition committee and then to the NHL Board of Governors for final approval before it is passed.

It's about freaking time.
