I was kind of afraid to go home last night after I heard the score of the Canucks game and worse that they were UP 2-0 at the beginning of the game! Wtf is wrong with them??

Yeah but giving up a lead isn't a new thing.. they've been doing it since last season. It's because they get a one or two goal lead early in the game and try to sit on it.. which rarely works. Giving up 7 unanswered goals is just.. there's no excuse for that.

I feel your pain bobalina. There's w/out a doubt something very wrong going out in Canuck land.

Did anyone else see Elliott Friedman's piece on the history of Goalie Masks, but the real focus was on the Artwork that's now being done on the Masks. Elliott visited the workshop of one of the men who designs and makes Masks for some in the NHL, but the one they were focusing on is the one he's currently finishing up for Carey Price.

Apparently, the Habs are playing on Remembrance Day and Carey wanted to pay honour and tribute to the Veterans in his own way. Both to the Vets of the Past and those who are currently serving their Country.

On each side, on the upper "quadrants/corners" above the cage, there's a Canadian flag flying in the wind. On the left side, is In Flanders Field in English over top of the flag and the French translation is on the right side. Below the poems in each of the far "corners" are scenes honouring the Fallen. On the right is a Piper playing a Lament, on the left is a Vet placing a wreath. Along the bottom or chin/neck portion is a cascade of Poppies, w/Lest We Forget on the left and the French translation on the right and they're just above the Poppies. In the Centre, is a Yellow Ribbon. The very top portion is a royal blue w/nothing on it, but that of course could change by the time we see it worn.

This was all Carey's idea. He also came up w/exactly what he wanted on the mask and where to put the various designs. Now...As great as all this is, and I give Carey Price major props for doing this, it gets even better.

You see, after Carey wears it for the game on November 11th, he's not intending to wear it ever again. Instead, he's going to auction it off to raise money to help the Wounded Warriors Fund of Canada. He told Elliott it's the very least he can do for all that the Vets/Current Soldiers have done for us.

My respect for Carey Price went through the roof after hearing that. I've been looking online for pictures of the Mask, but haven't found one yet. It truly is gorgeous and I hope it raises a huge amount to help out our Wounded Vets.

As my Mom said after watching the piece w/me, "His Parents raised him right." :)

I just thought after all of the continuing injuries, as well as the mess w/the NHLPA *and* continuing issues w/the teams in the Southern USA, we needed a "good news" kind of a story in here. :)

I hate to say it but strategy comes from the coaches. I can't imagine the players themselves are making the decision to sit back. I'm not the type to automatically blame the coach when a team starts losing.. but when they are losing by doing the same thing over and over again there's something very off.

Apparently the Habs decided to dress up for Halloween too. (http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1513/capt205dc1528c88451b9a1.jpg)

I was watching that game, and practically got a headache from those uniforms. It's actually not the first time they've worn them, but they haven't gotten any less hideous over time.

No, not the first time they've worn them, but it's the first time they've gotten a win in them.

Sigh...Really thought the Leafs were going to pull that one off. :(

Did anyone else see this afternoon's game between the Sens and the Thrashers? Man alive that Goalie Atlanta's got literally stood on his head and then some this afternoon. Some of those saves were just amazing!!

I give to Lyndon Slewledge (sp?), the OPP Officer who always sings the Anthems. He got into the spirit of the day by dressing up as The Phantom of the Opera to perform the Anthems today. He looked great too!!! :D

For those that missed it last night, here's the piece on Goalie Masks, w/the look at Carey Price's Tribute to the Vets...

Inside Hockey ~ Goalie Masks Over The Years (http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Sports/CBC's_Hockey_Night_in_Canada/Inside_Hockey/ID=1315276733)

BTW...It was Fifty Years ago tonight that Jacques Plante took that puck off the face, went to get the cut stitched, then after a stare down w/his Coach...Went into the Dressing Room to put on his Mask he'd created and...

The rest is Hockey History.

I hope that's the right video, as w/me on Dial Up Hell, it won't work for me, so can't double check it.

So is it safe to say that at some point during Carolina's run to the finals they managed to piss off the hockey gods something fierce? Already without Eric Staal and Ray Whitney, having lost eleven games in a row, this happens. (http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=297647) Apparently Ward is out for at least a month.

I think Marc-Andre Fleury's chances of making the Olympic team just went up.

Huh.. well it's not gonna do any good if players wear them like they wear helmets now. How can anything help if it goes flying off your head at the time it's supposed to be protecting it?

Well, between Ovechkin's knee-on-knee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCH2S1ve1xg) and Keith Ballard nearly taking his own goalie's head off (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUlT4JQVhCs), last night was an eventful night in the NHL for all the wrong reasons.

In other news, maybe the cure for Sidney Crosby's offensive trouble this year is to play the Rangers every game. He has five goals and three assists in back-to-back games against them, and jumped from (I believe) eighteenth to third in the scoring race in three days.
