Halak was the main reason the Habs got to the Conference Finals in the first place - WTF were they thinking??? This ain't the Expos, the Canadiens should have enough money to pay for a salary increase. They'd better get some great players in return...

Belated congrats to the Blackhawks btw!!! WTG Chicago. :)

I think I'd be okay with a goalie that was so-so enough to at least get us in the playoffs and then amazing in the playoffs.. unlike some goalies *cough*Luongo*cough*

It's awards night! Will the 3-peat be ruined for OV? And if so, by who? Here's hoping Henrik Sedin wins at least one of the two awards he's up for.

Glad to see Sedin win the Hart for league MVP. IMO well deserved. Ditto for Miller winning Vezina, Keith winning the Norris and Myers winning the Calder. Also Tippett for coach of the year.

Hope Oilers pick Hall. Seguin looks like a future NHL star too, but Hall seems to be more of a big game player.

A sad day for the Caniac Nation with Rod Brind'Amour's retirement. But a happy day for us since he has said he will be staying with the organization in some capacity. Congratulations to a classy player and all around classy guy and the best of luck to him in his new post-hockey life. I will never forget being in the arena when he raised the Cup in 2006. :cheer2: In Rod We Trust.

Good-bye to Roddy (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533287)

Bob Probert died today: http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Troubled+former+enforcer+Probert+dies/3238330/story.html

I remember his performance in Battle of the Blades and how sad Sandra Bezic was to see him go as she had worked a lot with him.

I hope his demons were not what did him in.

I was so shocked to hear this news earlier tonight. The son of good friends of ours met him a couple of years ago over in Afghanistan during one of the trips to visit the Troops Bob did. He said Bob was fantastic w/all of them and just a great guy all around.

May he rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers go to his family, friends and teammates.

How about a nickname - The Rogers Garage? ;)

Somehow that's not the same lol! Considering the whole reason it was called the Garage was because of General Motors.. could we call it The Phone Booth? Or the Cable Box? lol!

If you haven't heard, Kovalchuk briefly had a long, :bribe: contract with the Devils, but then the NHL said that contract is not allowed.

Could someone tell me why he's so great? I haven't noticed it yet.

You've got me on that one. He's a good player, but not this outstandingly brilliant player we're being sold a bill of goods on. I'm actually glad the NHL stopped this thing from being reality. It would have set a very bad precisdent (Sigh...I just can't seem to spell today...Grrrr!!!) concerning contracts for the future.

I can't believe I'm actually agreeing w/something the NHL brass has done, but I guess Hell had to freeze over at some point. ;)

Nowadays a guy who consistantly score 40-50 goals like Kovy does are extremely rare....thus the big contract.

The Devils were clearly trying to circumvent the cap with a 17(!) year contract. However, they should easily be able to fix it so the league, the NHLPA and Kovy will be happy. The final contract wont me much different from the original/

The deal the Kings were offering Kovy was about 20 Mil less than the Devils, but also over an extended period of time.

I was shocked that they traded Halak..

And the  goalie movement continues.

Blackhawks let Niemi go, sign Turco

I finally found time to watch the NHL awards. It was pretty wild, I must say. Jay Mohr was pretty good. Not child-friendly, though, so I'll wait until my niece and nephew are in their teens before showing it to them  .
