Watched the beginning of the Habs/Capitals game. The Canadiens always have young children dressed in their hockey gear skate around with flags and then stand near the benches as the Canadiens players get on the ice.
I lost the last of my respect for Ovechkin when he crossed the ice to come and sit alone on the bench and braked hard enough to throw ice in the face of one of the kids, stopping just inches from him.
The Capitals official response is that the Canadiens should not have kids on the ice. Classy. The response was dumb, but seriously, you don't think the kid was telling that story to everyone at school today? Hell, he'll be telling it when he's 50. I'd be willing to bet he considers it the coolest thing that ever happened to him.

We used to do that all the time to the kids I coached and they loved it. They'd laugh and laugh.
I mean if the kid was upset then yeah.. apologize.. but if it's just a bunch of "how dare he!" comments by people who don't have a clue then the outrage is a little bit ridiculous.
I think the kids are cute and most definitely should be out there

Okay, I don't know who the colour guy is for CBC in the Ottawa/Pittsburgh series, but I'm pretty sure he has red and black pompoms in the booth with him. It's kind of hilarious.

That's funny cause I kind of thought Hrudey (I think that was his voice and the spelling of his name - he used to be a goaltender) was bleeding black and gold  and don't get me started on the officiating. Many missed calls again on both teams but more of that in favour of the Penguins than the Sens.
I had to go to bed after the 2nd OT was over knowing my puppy would wake me early. It really was an exciting game. I told my son that I kind of thought the odds were with Ottawa as it seems to me that whoever ties up the game to send it to OT is *usually* the one that wins it - at least in the games that I've watched.
That goal by Sid while falling to his backside - one reason why I find him exciting to watch. I'd pick him for my team any day.
Anyway, it's back to Ottawa for what I hope is another exciting game.

Thirteen points in five games, and highlight reel plays in most of them. Also, if I'm reading the NHL website (http://www.nhl.com/ice/app?component=completePlusMinusLeadersList&page=statshome&service=direct) correctly, he's yet to be on the ice for an Ottawa goal, despite the fact he's spent a good amount of time playing against the Spezza line.
I know people get sick of hearing about him sometimes, but jeebus, how can you not talk about a guy playing at that level?

I know. Sure he gets a lot of buzz and hype, but Sid really *is* that good. There's an amazing picture in the SI special edition celebrating Canada winning the Gold in Vancouver. It's from the Russia/Canada semi final, Sidney's got the puck going through the Russian defence and he's got the greatest look on his face. There's an ear to ear grin on his face and the sparkle in his eyes...The guy just loves hockey.
So many people get hyped to the Heavens and don't deserve it. Sid's one case where not only is the hype deserved, but he lives up to it too. Can't say that about many of the famous ones out there these days.

TSN just showed Eric Belanger pulling out one of his teeth on the bench after he got hit in the face during the Caps/Habs game.
God I love hockey.

I've enjoyed most of the results of the games over the past few days.
All three Canadian teams won with the Canucks hoping to finish their series against the Kings in game six. WTG to the Sens win on Thursday and to my beloved Habs who held on for the win on Friday night.
Pleased for Detroit who now lead their series 3 games to 2. Athough I'm not a big Red Wing fan, I still have a tender place in my heart for them.
I am reluctantly pulling for Boston but only because I don't like Lindy Ruff much. Find it interesting that Chara won't be suspended and that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli had to formally submit a written request to Terry Gregson, the NHL's director of officiating, to have the insigator call (at the game's end) rescinded. That's new to me.
Cheering for Chicago to take their series.

Capitals are determined to make things difficult on themselves. A radio reporter pointed out that every playoff series under Bruce Boudreau has gone to 7 games (2008, lost to the Flyers in game 7; 2009 beat Rangers in 7, lost to Penguins in 7).
And I didn't get to watch the final Flyers-Devils game until yesterday. Ian Lapierre  :yikes: .
The lesson last night, finally, was to wear a plastic shield from now on. It is something Laperriere's wife has urged him to do, advice he opted to ignore for the oldest reason in hockey. Laperriere is a grinder, a tough guy. The guys who just might wind up fighting don't wear shields.
"It was just a stupid macho thing in my head," Laperriere said. "I'm still going to be willing to fight anybody. I'll just have to take my helmet off. This is my last warning. It was bad luck tonight, but it was my last warning. Call me dumb, call me stupid, but it took me that to realize my eyes are important."

Someone on HNiC radio said "Imagine if that happened to a baseball player. He would be on the injured list a lot longer than a hockey player would :fragile: ."
My DVR schedule is all messed up. a lot of TBA. I'm just going to do a manual recording of Versus from 7pm to 2 am while I'm at work for the first half of the evening.

As great as that was last night for the Nuckies, I wish they could have saved some of those goals. Playoff games like that always worry me, as there's always a bit of a let down afterwards.
I hope they can ride the momentum of last night, but I am worried.
Hope you have fun at the game canadianskater!! :)
