The Saints need to do some quick media repair, because what the Saints defense coordinator is inferring is really disgusting. After describing that the goal will be to try to knock Manning out of the game, he'd better HOPE to hell that it doesn't happen.

Classless. But good luck with getting to Peyton. Manning has better OL protection than Favre and Warner, who the Saints tore into in their earlier playoff games, and he gets rid of the ball very early. Late hits will be very noticeable ... and now that Williams has tippped his hat with his intentions, maybe they will result in the penalties AND explusions. Break a leg, Peyton (profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/28/gregg-williams-suggests-the-saints-want-to-injure-manning/#comments)

Williams told 104.5 The Zone, via ESPN.com. "... we're going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him and when we do get to him we're going to have to make sure he gets a couple 'remember me' shots when we get there."
...

And Williams won't be reeling in his troops for the Super Bowl. Instead, it sounds like he's willing to risk a few 15-yard walk-offs if it means that Manning eventually will be carted off the field.

"When you put too much of that type of worry on a warrior's mind, he doesn't play all out," Williams said. "If it happens, it happens. And the only thing you'd like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn't get back up and play again."

You hope he doesn't get back up and play again. (We wonder what Archie thinks about his former team's objectives?)

In other words, "We'll gladly trade a penalty or two if it means that we get to see Curtis Painter instead of Peyton Manning."

In other words, the NFL should consider fining not only the players when dirty hits are applied to quarterbacks, but also their coaches.

I don't understand his quote. What does he mean when he says "and the only thing YOU would like for me to say..." Does that mean he felt he was being questioned in a way that they wanted him to say something like this. It is impossible to know the context from that. Also, the one part where they mention how he hopes to have him carted off the field is from the author, not from the defensive coordinators mouth. He may very well be saying this but it could so easily be blown out of proportion and taken out of context.

Listen to the actual interview with Gregg on the Nashville radio station. Its totally different than what Pro Football Talk is spouting off.

Yeah, and overall I don't think it would really make a difference with Manning. Instead of taking hits, he usually just goes down pretty fast (and I say this as a fan of Manning-I actually think it's a smart move to avoid injury), so it wouldn't make a difference with him anyway. Also, I don't think the officials (who love protecting QBs) would let them get away with anything truly dirty.

All Gregg Williams said was that he was going to have his guys go after Manning and rough him up a bit-isn't that what a defensive coordinator is supposed to do?

Kurt Warner is expected to retire on Friday.:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed:wuzrobbed
http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/01/27/warner-expected-to-announce-retirement-friday/

He is such a class act. I admire all of the good and charity work he has done off the field. I'll miss watching him play. He is a definitely a Hall of Famer, IMO.

This has been the biggest news here for the past few days- speculation, reacting to the upcoming news conference, and finally accepting that he has decided to retire from football. He was playing at such a high level that it's disappointing, but Kurt said during the interview that physically he is fit but mentally he does not want to do it another year. I respect his decision if that's what his heart is telling him. He is a classy guy and he has helped two hopeless teams get to the superbowl (and one of them won it!).

I went to the AZ-GB game playoff game here. Little did I know that I was watching the last home game of Kurt Warner. He was incredible in that game. What's truly great about Kurt is that nothing was handed to him. He was not drafted, and he had to fight for everything he got. He truly was a representative of the underdog who pursues his dream.

Since the Saints are really a regional team, not just for New Orleans, any food item from Louisiana, Mississippi, south Alabama and southwest Florida would be considered "authentic".!
I just caught this. Maybe you mean northwest Florida? Gulf Coast, Pensacola &/or Tallahassee & the panhandle? Southwest, to me, means Gulf Coast, Tampa Bay to Naples. Not exactly a hotbed of Cajun/Creole cooking, IMO...:)

NJL (..and probably Bucs or Dolphin country, too...;)...)

Welcome good folks from all over that are here in sunny South Florida for Sunday's Super Bowl game. The weather you are enjoying today, and for the rest of the week 'tis said, is atypical. This is actually the dry season and a morning long 'gator strangling deluge is not what we expect on February 1st. Or any day until May or June, to be honest.

Be of good spirits! It could be worse. In fact, it is supposed to do just that...:biggrinbo ...Weather like this is forecast until the week-end. If we aren't all washed out to sea by then we'll enjoy even better weather than we had for last night's Nothing Bowl, where 70K+ hard core fans showed up at what's-it's-name stadium to enjoy the festivities.

So, until the liquid sunshine leaves us for the real thing, please spend lots of $$$ until the fun begins on Sunday & you can get to use those $2,500 to $3,000 tickets in the nose-bleed section seats to witness a 60 minute game that takes 4 or 5 hours to play (gotta get all those million dollar commercials in, ya know...;)..).

NJL (..just spend your way to happiness here & keep the several Chamber's of Commerce happy and the good times'll roll...:).....Cheers, and all that....:encore:...)

Of course I meant Northwest Florida! Pensacola has a huge fanbase. Lots of season ticket holders make the drive over every weekend.

Anyway, I'm in Super Bowl information overload. Just too much to keep up with! Looking forward to the next few days going by fast but I have a feeling they'll crawl by! Oh well.

I could see the SB turning into a very high scoring affair.

I could see the SB turning into a very high scoring affair.

Certainly has the potential! I think the game will come down to defense and turn overs, as usual I suppose.

The media and its :drama: over Dwight Freeney's ankle. "With Freeney, the Colts will dominate the Saints. Kill 'em! Without him, the Colts are doomed. Doomed!" Hilarious.

On the one hand, yes, DF's absence (or lowered performance due to the ankle sprain) will make a big difference, "probably" opening the Saints' passing game some more. Could be a big swing. Could be.

On the other hand, c'mon pundits -- it's not as if the Colts will be leaving that tackle slot open, like an empty chair at the Thanksgiving table for dear-departed Grannie. An able sub who knows the system will be there, doing his part, hoping to make his mark.

Ah, the Hype! Been staying away from it for a few days. Got to chuckle at it all ... especially since media's take on "the way it's gonna play out" is almost NEVER the way it plays out.

Freeney is an important piece to the puzzle, but it's the same war with or without him in the Super Bowl. However, perish the thought, if Brees or Manning were to go down before the game (stay away from the sushi, boys!) ... well, even dear-departed Grannie would know "the way it's gonna play out".

I seriously doubt Freeney's absence will make a HUGE difference. In an insanely close game it could be the difference but that requires all other things being equal or nearly equal and I don't see that happening. I don't see Freeney playing if he isn't at or very near 100% because a bum ankle really inhibits your movement which is key for him. Why risk leaving Brees wide open to thrown down the field when you can put someone else in who can do a very decent job of putting pressure on him.

Nice article about Brees and Manning (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2010-02-04-manning-brees-cover_N.htm)and the positive impact they each are making off the field as well.

Love both Brees and Manning!

We're having a Superbowl Party. The posts here almost inspired me to try some NO specialties. But I just don't have the time! (I'd feel the need to practice first, to prevent any disasters.) So I'm going with my reliable turkey chili and veggie lasagna. Thankfully both are easy to make in large quantities. Unfortunately, I am beginning to fear that I may not get to see much of the actual game. :drama:

Our Peyton, who art in Indy, hallowed be thy arm. Thy bowl will come, thy will be won, in Miami as it was in oh seven. Give us this game, our d'served win, and forgive us our fumbles, as we prevent scores 'gainst us. And lead us not into OT, but deliver us to end zones. For thine is the thrower, the power, and the glory of Indy for-e-------v-er. A-----------men.
