I prayed for Favre to be smote, and he was. ;)

Pretty much identical to the 2007 NFC Championship game, eh? ;) Sweet justice for Packer fans. :D

Congrats to the Colts and Saints!

OMFG. It still hasn't sunk in yet and I don't know how the hell I survived the near nervous breakdown I was having throughout that game.

I can't believe The Saints are going to the Superbowl. I have been a fan since I was in elementary school and I remember all my schoolmates making fun of me for being a Saints fan and how the Saints were always called "The ain'ts" Ha, I bet all those losers are fans of the Saints now!

Even if we lose, I just can't believe I would live to see the day we will go to the Superbowl!

Geaux Saints! Peyton Manning is an amazing quarterback and even though he's a New Orleans local, I totally want Brees to kick butt Superbowl Sunday.

The French Quarter is partying tonight.

Who DAT! Who DAT!

Help! I'm going to be in Quebec City over Super Bowl weekend and need to find a great, fun place to watch the game there. Anybody know where I should go?

Congrats to the Saints for their first SB appearance. :cheer2:

Best possible match-up, interest-wise, for pro football. Nawlins' first SB, the emotions it carries with the still-recovering city, the two coulda been perfection teams coming thru to meet for the Ring, NFL's biggest star whose father is the opposing team's biggest legend. Suck it, "Big Market" franchises!

 Favre the careless gunslinger reappears moments from a probable game-winning FG. Well, Minny fans, perspective: you'd have been nowhere near the NFC Championship game without the old man. So he giveth and then he taketh away.

 Favre Watch 2010 begins.

This New Yorker agrees. :) Though I'm already :( for whichever team loses in the SB.

I knew that would happen, but Adrian "Butter Fingers" Peterson was just as bad. Good golly!

It is crazy because he got 3 TD's so you would think he had the most amazing game but really he had a bad day. He is a big part of the reason that the Vikings kept it as close as they did but he is also a big part of the reason they lost. The stats on this game say Vikings should have won easily, those turnovers were big time.

Bret Farve! See age does make a difference, he in one fell swoop went senile!

The Vikings made 5 turnovers (I hope I have this number correct- 5th being Favre's interception toward the end of regulation when the Vikes had a chance to win). It's amazing that the game stayed that close. Normally a team committing 5 TOs would be blown away.

The Saints making it to the superbowl is similar to the Cardinals making it there last year. First time ever, for both teams.

Wrong.
The two games had little in common. Favre was never really in synch in the 07 game. In this game he was outstanding throughout (completely outclassing Brees), and made a bad final throw.. he really had no business doing a rollout on a bad ankle in the first place. But his protection was sh** all game long, and he really didn't have a choice.

You're right about one thing-- the league officiating was skewed to achieve a desired outcome. The saints were helped time and again, particularly the phantom interference call (which normally would have been overruled by a side judge with a better angle on the 'catchability' question).

The Saints were handed victory, by officials and by the Vikings themselves. (most specifically, Adrian Peterson). And they will be badly dismantled by the Colts. It will not be competitive.

And THAT is the worst possible match up-- for viewers.

Oh whatever. The refs were pretty much up Farves butt throughout the first four quarters and all season long the refs have had reputation of being biased towards Farve. Now all of a sudden, when the Vikings have 6 fumbles and 2 interceptions, they're biased towards the Saints?

Yeah, Brees didn't play his best game at all, but he never threw any interceptions either and we all know he could play a lot better. If I was bitter too, I could make all sorts of arguments on how we handed the Vikings the game and yet still pulled out a victory.

Go ahead and ignore the way the Saints have been playing almost all season and doubt them, we'll see who will be eating crow at the Super Bowl.

I won't disagree about light treatment of Favre by officials-- hell, they even dust him off sometimes after a sack.

Some inconvenient facts:
- The saints were 0-3 to end the season, and really only competitive in one of them.. against the Bucs.
- In the divisionals, they beat a Cardinals team that was physically and mentally whipped after the Green Bay wildcard win. (Oh, and the Saints were helped out by the Cards in that one too.)
- Championship caliber teams don't vanish in the 2nd half of an NFC Championship. If not for a long kickoff return, and fumble recovery near the goal line, it would have been one of the great disappearing acts of all time. See for yourself:

Cheap "football tackling" won't work against the Colts - they'll just take care of the football and take care of business. Even if NO doesn't get blown out, they'll probably just sortof scrape and claw for everything all day. Beaten in time of possession, possibly the line of scrimmage. Colts will make it look easy in comparison, probably never trail, and it'll end up something like 31-17.

That's probably a more realistic prediction but I still wouldn't rule out a blowout.

And now the important work begins - planning the menu!!:cheer2:

I'm ignoring Miami because been there done that don't really like the town :drama: but will throw in something citrusy if my vegan friend can make it.

I think I have New Orleans covered as I have plenty of recipes/inspiration from the Delta region. If anyone has a particular tailgate/Super Bowl favourite that is distinctly New Orleans, I'd love to hear about it though. Catherine??

For the Colts, I've been busy researching and it seems to come down to four things: pork tenderloin sandwiches, chili with spaghetti in it, variations on corn, and sugar pie. I can work with these, but again, if anyone is from southern Indiana or knows of an authentic regional dish, let me know.

And, because the Super Bowl is one of the few days in the year when it's entirely excusable, nay mandatory, to eat crap, I shall be including my usual hot sausage cheese dip, deep fried pickles etc.:rollin:

If this is off topic my apologies - PM me if you have any ideas!
