There is going to be lots of True Blood stuff at Comic Con this year (July 22-25 in San Diego)

The big True Blood Event is considered the 'main attraction' of Comic Con this year. The panel Q&A will be Friday, July 23 from 5:15-6:15 Most of the main cast will be attending:
* Alan Ball, Executive Producer
* Anna Paquin, Sookie Stackhouse
* Stephen Moyer, Bill Compton
* Nelsan Ellis, Lafayette Reynolds
* Sam Trammell, Sam Merlotte
* Rutina Wesley, Tara Thornton
* Deborah Ann Woll, Jessica Hamby
* Kristin Bauer van Straten, Pam (YAY!)
* Denis O’Hare, Russell Ediington
* Joe Manganiello, Alcide Hervaux

Ryan Kwanten and Alexander Skarsgard are not scheduled to be there. AFAIK, Ryan is in Australia and Alex has tried but thinks he will be working too much to make it, though a moderator at skarsgardnews.com has been in contact with him and offering suggestions (my guess is she suggested he do satellite). He is supposed to be in Sweden any time now to start working on Melancholia before heading back to Honolulu to work on Battleship (he was just there for some pre-production stuff). Kate Bosworth was (conveniently) overheard at an event this week saying how she was going off to Sweden for a month, so it seems she's following him during his filming. I recommend they seat cardboard cut-outs of Ryan and Alex at the table. I imagine it will garner the same amount of screams.
I expect the line for that panel to be insane, but that is one of the panels at Comic Con that I really want to attend. (I'd have liked to see the Glee panel, but it is not until Sunday and my passes are only for Friday and Saturday.)

JEALOUS!!! I'm betting that Joe will get the Alex screams this year and a lot of focus from the questions, much like Alex last year. I was hoping Alex would go so that in the vein of last year's 'pink spandex' question (where he showed he was wearing pink and aqua socks... so awesome) he would be asked about 'red speedo underwear' for season 4.

I'm most happy that Kristin is going though. Pam is one of the most amazing parts of the show and I love all the love she's getting this year. Also happy that Denis is going as well. Weirdly, I was watching 'The Proposal' yesterday and he plays the immigration agent investigating Sandra and Ryan's relationship. I squealed.

Alright, before tonight's episode, some updates from the week...

Grant Bowler (Cooter) talks about his bromance with Stephen Moyer (http://www.trueblood-online.com/cast-crew/grant-bowler/grant-bowler-makes-a-memorable-first-impression-and-talks-about-his-bromance/). It's funny to read about the filming of the kidnapping bit in the car, where apparently he and Stephen were cracking up hysterically, practically blowing takes, and giggling so hard that they basically fell in love. Hee hee.

Alex talks upcoming movies, nude scenes and fame (http://skarsgardnews.com/?p=7477). He also talks a bit about his father in a quote that made me giggle, saying his father has instructed him to buy a house in LA and to make sure it has a guest house so he can visit and clean the pool. He also mentioned his multiple sexiest man in Sweden titles, saying he was flattered and definitely not sulking about it. Hee hee. My guess is that it resulted in a very good pick up line for a gorgeous single guy in his 20s (at the time).

Cute video: "Hi. I'm Twilight and I'm True Blood, (http://www.trueblood-online.com/fun-stuff/video-hi-im-twilight-and-im-true-blood/)" with Barbie/Ken doll versions of Bill/Edward and Sookie/Bella.

Anna, Stephen and Alex did a photoshoot/press conference (http://www.trueblood-online.com/cast-crew/stephen-moyer/cast-shines-at-true-blood-press-conference/) at the Four Seasons Hotel a few days ago. All 3 looks gorgeous. (http://www.trueblood-online.com/cast-crew/stephen-moyer/more-photos-from-true-blood-press-conference/) I must say, I love that Alex's hair is very blonde again, and I quite enjoy his very scruffy face - a look not every man can pull off.

Stephen Moyer was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday (http://www.trueblood-online.com/cast-crew/stephen-moyer/video-stephen-moyer-on-the-tonights-show-with-jay-leno/). Adorable as always.

When Alex was seen at the airport about 2 weeks ago he had headed off to Hawaii for some work on Battleship. More info on that: The "Battleship" filmmakers have been logging serious sea time with the RIMPAC war games taking place in Hawaii waters. Their cameras have been rolling to capture footage of the vessels and their crews in action.
Alex was there and spent time aboard the Benfold, doing research and watching the officers in action so he could see them before he plays the role himself. (Source) (http://www.staradvertiser.com/columnists/outtakes/20100718_son_of_original_chin_ho_portrayer_meets_a ctor_now_filling_dads_role.html) Nice to see that he's taking his job that seriously.

He was back in LA for a bit, but he's now in Sweden. A fan has sent gossip blogs a picture she had taken at a bar in Stockholm the day after the press conference photos, sandwiched between Alex and his father, hunky Stellan (http://justjared.buzznet.com/2010/07/17/alexander-skarsgard-dad-stellan-skarsgard/). Its nice to see Alex smiling - something we haven't really seen in pictures in the past few months. He must have headed straight from the Four Seasons to the airport and Sweden and straight to the bar, since he's wearing the same clothes as in the photoshoot pictures (which took place on July 14, the bar shot on the 15th)

Okay hee hee. I don't think I've ever giggled through an episode quite so much. I loved the Talbot/Eric flirting bits. And Eric's flashback was pretty awesome - they really made Alex look very baby-faced in that scene. And he was also very 'Eric' with his goal in life being to live between the legs of women.

Franklin just makes me laugh hysterically. He's so cuckoo but awesomely so. The Jason bits had me cringing this week, though I found Sam's storyline more tolerable. Probably because there was less of his parents and Tommy wasn't quite such a little $hit. Anyone else thinking Tommy and Jessica are going to hook up? And was Hoyt's date Howard's girlfriend from Big Bang Theory?

My favourite quotes:

Franklin's amazingness...
Franklin:"This one is spectacularly different. She's such a ****ing disaster, we could be twins!"
Russell: "Franklin, you're a huge freak,"

Tara: "We need to talk,"
Franklin: "Women say that, it goes black, and I wake up surrounded by body parts,"

An excerpt from “This Week in Why We Love Eric”
Overbearing flashback father: “You can’t spend your life between a woman’s legs”
Werewolf-stabbing flashback Eric: “I can try.”

The preview for next week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDj6nnEILAM&feature=player_embedded) looks AMAZING! Eric looks to be really badass in it (and still looking amazing in that light coloured sweater).

I love this assessment of Rutina Wesley's acting in this episode. Nothing against the girl, but really...

I’m starting to think that the writers should just cut out all of Rutina Wesley’s lines and just let her quivery chin do the acting. She is the queen of Acting: 101 reaction shots. In this episode, Bill wouldn’t help her escape from Franklin so she gave him a shocked look. Then she looked both afraid and amazed when Franklin dressed her in a fancy white nightgown and showed her his speed-texting skills. She tried to run away from the mansion in the middle of the day, but instead got to employ all her facial muscles in terror when Wolf Coot attacked her (if only he had killed her, or at least maimed her, but I digress). But she saved her most quivery look for when Franklin told her he was going to take her out to a fancy meal at Shoney’s before turning her into his vampire bride! (Huge bulging, blinking eyes! Mouth agape! Throat gagging at the thought of having to eat at Shoney’s for her last ever meal as a real human person!)

And finally, the assessment of Eric's viking hair in a recap of the episode...

Eric took his place as king, swore vengeance against the wolves (and the man in the black hood who taunted Eric from the front door), and decided to cut off the ‘90s skater boy haircut that Alexander Skarsgard no doubt sported back in the day.

Speaking of Eric's Viking flashback, you can purchase True Blood Viking jewellery here (http://cadsawan.com/tb.shtml) with proceeds of the viking buckle going to Doctors Without Borders.

The writers hate Sookie and Tara. The whole episode, was OMG, what horrible things are going to happen to me? Help me, Help me. Book Sookie isn't that bad.

I was kinda hoping the wolf would put Tara out of her misery.

Since I have no idea where they're going with the were storyline since they've totally changed it from the books, I'm glad they're showing some other stuff. Viking Eric is always good. Layfeyette is good, his flirting with caretaker dude was fun.

The actor playing Sam's father is horrible. The script is bad enough, throw in some bad acting and it's just bad.

I didn't care for this episode as much. The Franklin/Tara and Talbot/Eric stuff was great....everything else was *yawn*. They're really using a lot of filler and not moving the storyline along well at all. I realize they have a lot of characters on the show(maybe too many?) but it would be nice if they could focus on one set of them more one week, and maybe another the next...not 5 min of everyone and very little progression.

At least when the book bogs down, you can just skip a few pages.

07-20-2010, 02:35 AM
Yeah exactly

I heart Eric... :swoon:

I'm so happy they finally let Eric change up his clothes. As much as I love his black tank top/leather jacket look, that blue sweater was just STUNNING on him.

Every recap/review of the show that I read (aside from those by the Bill fanatics) constantly states that Eric is the most enjoyable part of the show and that Alex is the best actor on the show. I don't see why the writers aren't acknowledging this in the stories. He is the most engaging character, and one that we want to learn more about.

It was so awesome to finally see some of his human backstory to see why he is the way he is. He was a pampered prince - of course Eric constantly feels entitled - used to getting his way. It also explains why he's so 'vicious' compared to Bill. His flirting with Talbot was absolutely hilarious (and sexy). When he asked Talbot if he learned anything from the Japanese erotica and Talbot replied with 'you know as well as I that there is never something new, only somebody new' and Eric kind of chuckled and checked Talbot out... I was so giggly - I loved it!

I don't like Tara, but I love Franklin. He is so messed up but hilariously so. Trying to charm a chick by showing off your texting skills while having her tied up to the bed, wanting to turn her into a vampire, and talking about blacking out then waking up surrounded by body parts? I'm scared that I kind of have a crush on him.

So what do people think Eric/Russell's plan is? I think...
1) Kill the magister
2) Kill Lorena and claim she was forcing Bill to do her bidding with the vamp blood (thus clearing Bill, Eric and Sophie-Anne)
3) Bribe Sophie-Anne into marrying Russell and somehow outsmart the magister

But really, the show's writers need to realize that either Bill needs to remain a badass or they should just focus more on Eric. I really hope they don't veer from the main book 4 storyline too much because we need that bit of Eric to really move the story on.

Oh, and in rewatching the episode... did anyone else get tingly watching Eric wield that sword all awesomely in the flashback? I so want to see more swordfighting Eric, cause that was freaking hot!

I am really enjoying Franklin, but since I heart James Frain, that's not surprising. Have been a fan of his since 'The Buccaneers'...:)

James Frain was great in The Tudors...though I did enjoy when his character was killed on the show. ;)

Thrilled he is in True Blood. Great addition to the show IMHO.

Best part of this episode was Eric in the pale blue sweater. Outside of that, I wasn't impressed - Jason's and Sam's storylines suck. I totally hate the tied up Tara story and the thought that Pam was somewhere being tortured. Can't they torture and kidnap men for a while instead?

I'm losing interest quickly...

They should torture Sam into entertaining us. And torture Tara just because... though really she is kind of being tortured already...

Anyone going to Comic Con this weekend, be sure to share all the juicy details. And lick Joe Manganiello's abs for me. Rowr.

Alex tried to work it out with HBO to get a live feed satellite from Sweden so he could in a way be there, but there wasn't enough time to get it set up, so there will be no Alex at Comic Con this year.

On Skarsgardnews (http://skarsgardnews.com/?p=7585), the webmistress has comfirmed that the cast of Melancholia is getting into town and that they are staying in a private location (not in Stockholm) with high security. Apparently when he was filming Straw Dogs the fans got so bad that they were hanging out for hours on end at the hotel, trying to get the room next to his to listen to whether he was having sex, they learned his jogging route, where he did his laundry, etc. Really kind of creepy and makes it pretty understandable how secretive the set of this one is. The whole cast is staying together at the secret location. Alex with (I believe) Kirsten Dunst who is his co-star on the movie (http://skarsgardnews.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/3143924719.jpg). Should we take guesses on how long until the rumors start about those two?

In other news, Anna was on Chelsea Lately tonight... hopefully the video will be online soon.

Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries is a True Blood fan and wants there to be a crossover so that her character can hook up with Eric. (Source) (http://www.trueblood-online.com/video/nina-dobrev-of-vampire-diaries-is-a-fan-and-loves-eric-of-true-blood/)

Kristin Bauer drew a portrait of Alex (http://www.trueblood-online.com/cast-crew/alexander-skarsgard-eric/kristin-bauers-portrait-of-alexander-skarsgard/) that she will be auctioning off for charity. In addition to her own signature on the drawing, Alex has signed it as well. The link shows a comparison of Kristin's drawing next to the original picture - really well done!! I read on her twitter (@mrsvanstraten) a while ago that now Stephen Moyer wants her to do one of him.

Now, is it Sunday yet?
