Toto takes on this weeks noteworthy tweets from the cycling world. (http://nyvelocity.com/content/toto/2011/toto-turns-238)

Hushovd definitely not riding the Vuelta, and some Australian riders seem to feel strongly about it for some reason - directing all sorts of critival tweets to Vaughters about disrespecting the rainbow jersey.

Gilbert joins Thor and Evans at BMC next year (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/philippe-gilbert-signs-for-bmc)

Wow, it's getting really crowded at BMC. It doesn't seem like there is really room for Thor and Gilbert on BMC for grand tours, especially with Evans already saying that BMC will not work for Thor.

Vuelta starts today with the always entertaining team time trial.

Is it just me, or did the Vuelta start like a week later last year? I remember it starting the weekend before my orientation, which is next week. I was watching Gymnastics on Universal sports and they mentioned that the Vuelta started this weekend. Otherwise I'd have missed it because I thought it was a week away!

Yikes. It looks like the cyclist had plenty of time to see any pedestrians in the road, so the kid must have just darted out in front of him obliviously. It's good to see an ambulance in the background!

An amazing picture. The peloton must have hoped the boy would hold up quick or was a fast runner because they're coming like a freight train.

It looks like the rider tried to slide the bike under him while doing a step and roll over him, but the front tire maybe caught on the boy's firmly planted foot?

"Burghardt hits a dog" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0dzMp61G5w from the 2007 Tour shows a relatively happy outcome.

Yay for Rachael Flatt - she just tweeted about the US Pro Challenge race going on in Colorado.

I did a massive double take when I realized that she'd tweeted that instead of one of the many cyclists I follow.

Some great pics from the US Pro Challenge (http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2011/08/25/the-game-usa-pro-cycling-challenge/4600/)

ETA: Tyler Farrar crashed out of the Vuelta today. Latest update from twitter by one of the Velnews guys:

Farrar transported to local hospital, could not put weight on left leg; no official confirmation yet, but looked bad

A really sweet guest column on the Fat Cyclist website (http://www.fatcyclist.com/2011/08/31/why-radioshack-is-now-my-sons-2nd-favorite-team/) about a kids chance to meet some of his cycling heroes

Reports that Leipheimer and Tony Martin have signed with Omega (http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/report-leipheimer-and-martin-to-omega-pharma-quickstep). Didn't see that one coming. I wonder if this has anything to do with a rumored Leopard-Trek/Radio Shack merger? However, Levi has emphasized that he hasn't made any official announcement of a team for next year.

It sounds like the boy spent the night in the hospital but wasn't seriously hurt.
