I'm not going to open a can of pork and beans on the ice.'
 :kickass:

The producers did say that they refer to Johnny as HRH.
Rightly so. His Royal Weirness is not to be trifled with! ;)

Louis + Groshkova, awesome reviews. Couldn't have done it better myself :)

:respec: serious :respec:

BTW...when they showed Evan's LP at the 2008 Nationals on a 40 ft by 40 ft screen, you can really tell how underrotated his jumps were and how overscored he actually was.

[QUOTE=Groshkova;2275447]Someone asked the filmmakers what they thought of the skating world. Johnny said that they became exposed to the skating world, which 'Skating is just one big crack house with rhinestones and glitter.'

What exactly did Johnny mean by this? I can just see some people shaking their heads and going "oh, no not another drug reference"

This was an informal Q+A...

Anyways, he meant that the skating world is quite unique/bizarre and that there is nothing else like it.

Some great reviews. Just some additional comments:

- I think that his comment about Elvis was, "I'm not going to put out a can of pork and beans out on the ice". At that point, I turned to my friend and said, "That's quotable".

Johnny looked incredible last evening. He opted for a nouveau Elvis Presley look. Someone from NBC was in the Bentley with Johnny and was actively fillming his arrival. I guess we'll have to see where the footage lands up.

I think that Johnny's comment about the children was that in many cases, regardless of what parents are going to do to sway their children in terms of preferences, ultimately, the child will evolve according to their needs.; Children will become who they are.

Viktor and Nina Pretrenko were talking with James Barba and David Pellerito and were incredibly complimentary about the film indicating that they thought that it truly captured the trials and tribulations of a competitive figure skater and was totally realistic.

We met the Festival organizer. When we asked her what the reception was with respect to Pop Star vs. all of the other films, she said, that the response to Pop Star was incomparable. She and the rest of the jury were initially reticent to select a documentary as their closing feature, however when they viewed Pop Star, there was no question that it would be so. As someone unfamiliar with figure , she indicated that this really provided a view of a sport that she really never knew. I think that this could really educate the public.

Interestingly enough, one of the festival award presenters was Heather Mattarazzo, the actress who has played Ann Hathaway's best friend in the Princess Diaries and was also featured in the Devil's Advocate.

Thanks for your reports, everybody, it all sounds incredible.

Am I the only person who doesn't get the "can of pork and beans" reference?

I think 'can of pork and beans' was meant to be very masculine/camping/NASCAR reference. Stojko's Karate on ice was a bit out there...

Thank you all very much for your reviews. They were informative and entertaining. :)

Lysacek gives one long Sarah Palin response about all of the knowledge he's gained from Plushenko and 'that Swiss guy' and how he used to look up to skaters who have been around for this last decade and now little kids can look to him for knowledge and be inspired...

This stuff wasn't clever editing tricks. It comes across the same way Evan did when he described his OWN Olympic long program as being courageous and all about character. (That is something you leave for the commentators to say.)
