New England Sports Ventures owners of the Boston Red Sox are now the new owners of Liverpool FC. They just beat the deadline the now former owners Gillet and Hicks have launched a $1.6b lawsuit against the Liverpool board. But for now the crisis has been averted and RBS bank will get their money back on time. Whether or not the new owners will run the club effectively or run it into the ground like it's previous owners is still to be seen. Liverpool have at least brought itself more time to recover.
If they treat Liverpool the way they've treated the Red Sox then the Reds will be back to prominence shortly.

NJL (...IIRC, they owned the Marlins, once upon a time....I wish they still did...:(...)

Agree. John Henry and team take sport very seriously. They know they only way to make money is to put a good product on the field.

Boy, Man U blew it big time today. After scoring two early goals against West Brom, they gave up an own goal and then Van De Sar dropped the ball in the box and WBA put it in to tie the score,. It ended up as a draw, and poor result for United at home.

Just saw the highlights. Not pretty, not pretty at all. What can I say? This is going to be a rough year.

A few important things have happened the last couple days. They involved the 2018/2022 bids. A British newspaper posed as American businessmen trying to bribe FIFA officials to secure the 2018 tournament and caught two officials on tape asking for money. FIFA in response to The Times article have said they will launch an investgation, but this is something that will probably force FIFA to put off the awarding of the tournaments. Meanwhile the US has officially withdrawn from the 2018 bidding process. My only thing with the newspaper is why did the pose as Americans? It just looks funny that they would pretend to be American. Were they not only trying to expose corruption in FIFA but perhaps embarass their rival bidders as well but not their own country? There has been a string of these types of "sting" operations by British newspapers.

That will really upset my son, who has a big poster of Rooney up on his wall. :(

In other news:-
1) Those two FIFA officials who were accussed of seeking bribes were suspended.
2) Galatasaray have named Gheorge Hagi as their new coach.
3) Man U says they want a quick resolution to the whole Wayne Rooney mess which means I believe that he will be transfered come January.

Liverpool could only draw 0-0 today. I was so hoping for a win for them, if only so there could be some good news for the club for a change. If this new American owner is everything people say he is, he better start turning things around soon... But it was not all bad news for the English; Manchester City won their match against Lech 3-1. :)

Wayne Rooney has changed his mind about leaving Man U and has signed a new five year contract. Not sure what to say right now.

Fan violence after the Liverpool v Napoli Europa League match resulted in several arrests and injuries. The game ended 0-0 and is to say the least the fan clashes are extremely unfortunate.
