LOL@allezfred I cannot wait for the first match to start! I just wish they would get all this fluff stuff over fast so I can get on with watching football! :slinkaway This is the first tournament which I will not be able to watch as many matches at I would like. :(

Opening ceremony tomorrow. Let's hope South Africa leaves the slam poets at home.

I'm excited - I have "summer hours" on Friday, so that means I'll be able to go to a free viewing party tomorrow afternoon at Daley Plaza for the France-Uruguay match :cheer:

I'm gonna try to find the concert at home - on the satellite, on the internet, whatever bc it sounds like it was fab! :dog:

Shakira :cheer: I suspect Colombian TV will replay that and Juanes nonstop. :shuffle:

Am I a bad fan for liking Waving Flags better?

Tomorrow! :cheer2:

Oleada, I go through bouts: sometimes I like K'naan's song best and other times I wanna shake my booty to Shakira's Waka Waka remake. They are both good - just different :)

And Juanes = dreamy :swoon:

Here are a few quick notes:

1) Here is another article about football in India and hopes for it's future.

2) On another note the WC footballs that were made in Pakistan last time around (2006) were made in China this time. Perhaps due the the instability in the region. Sad.

3) Some Chinese reporters in town for the WC were robbed.

4) Roman Abramovich is in SA promoting Russia's 2018 WC bid.

5) The national flags are out in force in the city of Toronto already. :)

6) NATG channel has a special on right now on how the WC stadiums were build. Fascinating stuf. :)

Perhaps we should have a World Cup thread? Any ideas for a title are welcome as I am very uninspired by football. ;)

06-11-2010, 11:39 AM
Sounds like a great idea. How about "World Cup hotties and more thread"? LOL

ON a more serious note; Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter was killed returning home from the concert so he will not be at today's opening match. My condolences to him and his family.

^ I just read it too, Mandela is missing the opener because his great granddaugher who just turned 13 a couple of days ago was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver as she was on her way home from a World Cup concert.

Tragic at so many different levels.

I was actually going to start a thread entitled World Cup Hotties, but it was only supposed to be about, you know, hotties. :P

:( That's terrible news - My condolences to their family :(

Just a few non WC related stuff, well sort of...

1) Pele says Maradonna took the job as Argentina coach because he needed the money. But isn't that why most people take jobs? For the money?
2) Real Madrid according to rumours wants Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney. I hope that Man U is not in so bad a shape they start selling their biggest stars.
3) Arsenal wants German striker Mesut Ozil
4) Yossi Benayoun is moving from Liverpool to Chelsea
5) Rafa Benitez is replacing Jose Mourinho at InterMilan.
6) Benitez hopes Milos Krasic and Alan Dzagoev joins him at Inter. The Russian premier league has lost a lot of stars recently. Success it seems is a double edged sword.

Boy, Liverpool is in shambles if they lose Gerrard. Add in Benayoun and it's a disaster. Which makes their financial situation actually somewhat better, but the teams fortune looks bleak.

2) Anelka resigns with Chelsea
3) Sven Goran Erikkson is going to Fulham
4) Lazio is interested in Kevin Boateng and Nadir Belhadj of Portsmouth
5) Valencia wants Roque Santa Cruz
6) Chelsea is interested in Thomas Muller
7) Man U is interested in Raul Meireles
8) Joe Cole set for a Spurs move
9) Fiorentina wants Emiliano Insua
10) Juventus wants ALbert Riera
11) Chelsea wants Yossi Benayoun
12) Spurs tageting Simon Kjaer

Too lazy to look for links but negotiations are in course for AC Milan to sign Luis Fabiano. :cheer2: I am excited, we need a good forward and hopefully this guy, along with Pato and Ronaldinho, will form a great Brazilian trio!

Also Inter's Maicon is pretty sure to follow his ex-coach Mourinho to Real Madrid and Inter's new coach Rafa Benitez really wants to take Mascherano with him from Liverpool...
