Evidently he called a foul on Clint Dempsey after he passed the ball to Jozy. His slide caused him to run into one of the El Sal defenders & the ref seemed to think the contact was deliberate. There are several places on BS where this is discussed. The best view of the incident is on the referee forum. IMvhO it was a bad call. Clint passed the ball while sliding and the guy from El Sal tripped over him after the pass is my take on it.

NJL

If this is the case, it still blows. Clint and the defender were chasing a 50-50 ball and Clint got to it first and poked it on to Jozy. The defender then fell over Clint after the ball was passed. No decent ref in the world makes that call. As was said on BS, try and make that call against the Tri's in Azteca and see what happens! ;)

Yup, all that may well be true. But, doing it in front of a crowd where 50% to 60% of the fans are wearing the colors of, and cheering for, El Sal and you can do whatever you wish. Especially if the balance of that crowd does not consider the outcome of the match to be a matter of national pride, life & death, etc.

It baffles me that we'd get a ref from anyone in the hex right now.

NJL (such is life... ...)

Since today TnT do not have a chance, I hope at least they put up a good fight. LOL

They have a chance, Buzz. The last time the USA played them in Port-of-Spain TnT won. That's the reason that BB & all the players on the US team are saying that this is a must win game. It gives them the extra motivation needed to make sure they win. I'm certain that they all remember last years loss, which did not hurt the USA at all but did insured that TnT would advance to the Hex, and don't want a repeat of it. This time a loss could very well kill the US's chance to go to South Africa. I'm sure the guys from TnT know this and would love to do it to us, so don't worry, come what may, they'll put up a good fight.

NJL (Although starting US center back Jay DeMerit is out with a groin pull, we should have enough depth to cover that loss and forward Charlie Davies's injury from the El Sal game seems to be OK......consequently, most folks are predicting a 1-0 win for the US...we'll see)

Congratulations to England, and can someone tell me if I am seeing things? Because I could swear I see something about Lithuania losing to Faroe Islands. But that can not be right at all!
