World: Hebrew and Yiddish: Everyday Yiddish

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. After a long day, your mother comes home and says, "I'm so faklempt I could plotz!" What is she saying?

I'm so bored I could shoot myself!
I'm so mad I could scream!
I'm so tired I could collapse!
I'm so happy I could shout for joy!

The answer they give is the third:

"faklempt" = tired. "plotz" = faint or collapse. "Plotz" is often used informally now to mean "to show extreme surprise", but not in this context. (ie. that of the question.)

Now, it appears that plotz can indeed mean faint or collapse (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/plotz?qsrc=2446)

although that is not the meaning (http://www.sbjf.org/sbjco/schmaltz/yiddish_phrases.htm) that I'm familiar with (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=plotz).

But farklempt (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=farklempt%2C%20ferklempt) or verklempt (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/verklempt) does not mean tired! It means choked up (http://www.koshernosh.com/feeling.htm)!
