Hi,I have a huge problem!!!!
I got 3 tickets for the Men FS, Cat B, but it looks like I won't be able to go to Vancouver... :(The big problem is that I got them through the Swiss travel agency, and therefore I think they could accept to transfer my tickets only to somebody else in Switzerland...
If anyone is interested pls send me a PM, thanks!!!

It would be very tricky for someone not from Switzerland to use your tickets.

I considered getting tickets through my niece in the UK but the rule was that only the official ticket holder could claim the tickets at the gate to the event. I would assume this means that passport and other ID are required.

It is understandable that countries would want their tickets to be available only to citizens of that country. . .although it sucks that in the end this may mean empty seats.

I would expect - or hope - that VANOC would have a system in place to resell tickets that other countries don't use.

Eta: DANG! The tickets went elsewhere. So I am still looking for 1 or 2 all event tickets for Skate Canada. Would appreciate a PM BEFORE tickets are posted in the forum. Today, I was out walking around Chicago, doing tourist things, so missed the message.

I would expect that would be the protocol for non-Canadians picking up tickets at the gate.

If you were the organization responsible for selling Olympic tickets to the citizens of a non-Canadian country, you would want to ensure that the tickets allotted to you were for the citizens of your country, not another one. FS is not only a high demand event in Canada and people in other countries.

We Canadians certainly would be displeased if we learned that people outside the country were getting figure skating tickets that were officially allocated to us. The opposite is equally true.

That's absolutely fair!
I was just wondering since, as far as I know, Italians will be sent tickets directly to them from the Italian agency, and will not have to pick them up at the gates in Vancouver. Will they still be checking passport at the doors in this case? It just seems awfully time-consuming, that's all!

Tickets are not on sale yet. They usually start selling tickets just few weeks before the event. But you can buy them easily just before the event, cause the arena is huge and usually is more than 50% empty.

I think that would be easier to get around but would still be insecure about it, if I were aiming to use a ticket issued from another country. I'd probably call Vanoc and just ask what the procedure is. Maybe spin a bit of a tale (poor me I lucked out in the Canadian lottery so far and my friend in Italy has a ticket she may not need to use).

Perhaps I worry too much, though.

I called to check about the transfer of tickets among Canadians - I got two through another person - and was told that it would be fine after the tickets had been mailed out. Maybe it's the same for tickets issued and mailed out elsewhere.
